Anime Evo

Lots of work to do this week! Fortunately I have the empowering Mighty Switch Force 2 soundtrack to keep me focused and on task. Go, go, go!

Anime Evolution starts this Friday, Vancouver friends! Who all is going to be there?

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Ironic Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Do you think of the character Jess Star as a trans woman?" -Carol

Jess Star is a shapeshifting slug that identifies and lives primarily as a human woman. That's... not a real thing, and I am reluctant to call it a direct analogy for a very real thing like transgenderism, because I think it would be kind of a problematic one if it was. That said, I try to treat Jess' fictional kind of identity with the same respect I would for a real person's real gender identity, be they trans or otherwise. Because in the comic, it is real! Do you know what I mean?

"Wait a minute. Mr. X, with his three arms, resembles a Y, while Mr. Y resembles a X. Ironic?" -Dave

No! But if Mr. X had always dreamed of resembling a Y, and had tried his whole life to become a Y, only to realize that he was better off being an X all along, and THEN he lost his arm...

...well, that actually wouldn't be ironic either. But if he was then accidentally run-over by a giant truck full of xylophones, driven by John Xavier, who was only in a hurry because of a scheduling error caused by a misplaced "x" value in the software coding... then, THEN...

... it still wouldn't be ironic.

"Where in the world is C̶a̶r̶m̶e̶n̶ ̶S̶a̶n̶d̶i̶e̶g̶o̶ Sidney?" -Jake

Sidney eventually returned from the "dead" to launch a new career in a new musical direction, to great success. Sid's independent success was part of what made Nicole so self-conscious about how the new Noosehead was received.

I miss Sid. It would be fun to work with him again someday! But like so many of my favourite older characters, there just isn't really a logical place for him in the current story.

That's a wrap for this week, team. See you on Monday!

Comic time

Draw, draw, draw... Shannon is back off to Oxford for a week for her masters program, so I am home alone with nothing to do but get a bunch of work done! (And play Last of Us. But mostly the work thing.)

After a week off, the regularly scheduled Sam and Fuzzy Q and A will return on Friday! If you've got a question you'd like answered, just drop it in an email with "Q and A" in the subject line. As always, I've got lots of inquiries into the minutiae of Sam and Fuzzy's plot and characters -- that is pretty much expected, when you do a comic as continuity-porny as I do! -- but I'm also happy to answer any queries about art creation, webcomic-ing, or comics stuff in general.
