Young Rex

Well, younger Rex. It's all relative!

Come back for Friday's comic to see more of Young Rexford and the proto Committee! I'm hoping to put together one last pre-holiday Q and A feature to boot, so if you've got any questions you'd like to ask about Sam and Fuzzy (or any of my other work for that matter), drop me an email with "Q and A" in the subject line!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Monday Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"What I really want to know is...how has Buddy been!?!? I really worry about that poor guy. I mean he's bonked his head against that glass bowl so many times I feel like your next story arc might be something reminiscent of Rocky V when he gets brain damage from his fight in Rocky IV." -Joe

I'm happy to report that Buddy is doing very well, and living happily in the pet store where Aaron now works. I think his experience being mutated into a giant rampaging monster was extremely rejuvinating... in both a physical sense and in a spiritual one.

"Given that you have been using the same font (based on you own handwriting) for quite some time, does your current handwriting still resemble the font at all? Or has your style changed some in the last 13 years?

Also, are you going to continue using this fort in your next projects? Over the years I have come to associate it not just with your work but with Sam & Fuzzy in particular, and I'm just curious if it is something that will carry over between this world and the next." -Dawson

That's pretty much still what my writing looks like, yeah... when I'm writing in comic-book lettering style, anyway! In addition to the first couple of years of Sam & Fuzzy, I hand-lettered about five billion other pages of earlier unpublished comics, so my writing style had pretty much solidified by the time I had the font made. If anything, my hand lettering would probably look even more like the font now than it did back then, because these days, I'd be inclined to hand letter more slowly and carefully to ensure my writing was as neat and legible as the font is. (In my early comics, I was more inclined to letter quickly and just live with the slightly messy results.)

"Based on the coordinates shown in the comic, I used Google My Maps to narrow the location of the pit down to a roughly 110 square foot patch of land in rural Pennsylvania.  Do those coordinates have any out-of-story significance?" -Kevin

They don't have any personal meaning, and if you travelled to the exact spot in real life you wouldn't find anything there that relates to this story or Sam and Fuzzy in general. But there is a reason why I put both it and the neighbouring Underground city of Retropolis where I did. You'll find out later!

Come back on Wendesday for our next comic! See you then, team.

December Patreon Rewards Out Now!

I've been stretched a little thin this week, friends, so our traditional Friday Q and A will be running on Monday. But in the meantime, I should mention our December Patreon rewards! They've been out for a while, but I was waiting to see if Patreon went through with a proposed fee adjustment first before I plugged 'em. (They didn't... thanks for listening, Patreon.)

Anyhow, there's a bunch of fun rewards this month for backers at different tiers, including a new bonus art poll, a new supervillain-packed issue of Sam and Fuzzy Extra, new additions to the Art Vault, and four new pin-ups for Saucy Hippo backers that I think turned out particularly well. (Assuming, of course, that you like pin-up art in the first place.) If you're a backer, you can nab your rewards on the Patreon site, and if you're considering backing, you can head there to learn more about 'em!

We return on Monday with a new Q and A and a new comic. See you then!
