Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Desert Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

It's Q and A time! But before we start, if I may take a brief moment to remind folks of my new stuff on sale... I've got new stuff on sale! Vote Dog books and pins! Is It Food t-shirts! It's an exciting time to be alive!

OK! Onto the questions:

"After thinking through Feb 8's first answer, I was wondering if you, as a joke or somehow already confirmed in canon as the tiniest little punchline someone might forget, consider any real world creature we ACTUALLY do have in real life to originate from the tar and technically count as an inhuman? It also makes me wonder if there are inhuman humans born from the tar, like say King Arthur, but that might be a spoiler question or something you want to pull from your pocket at a future date." -Chad

Ha! I can totally picture the sort of throwaway gag I might have done confirming that some particularly unusual real-life critter, like Playtpuses, were actually inhumans. But I don't think I ever did any! In general, my inclination is probably to avoid giving the tar credit for things evolution managed to do in real life. But I do think, in the S&F universe, that the tar is responsible for a lot of legends and folklore. I don't have any specific ideas involving legendary humans in particular, but the tar has definitely been responsible for humanoid creatures like vampires and elves, so it's always possible!

"Do you ever worry that the daily gags break the mood of the overarching plot? That's how it's feeling to me right now. It doesn't feel like there's time for silly gags unless the joke is baked into the events themselves. Like Dev's terror bunny! But the "only if you make it weird" and the cork gags... everyone's way too chipper with regards to something so drastically important! Namely, the first ever (publicized) contact between the Underground and the Surface and the plan to save everyone from an unfortunate fate! How are they taking this so lightly?" -Lemma

It's definitely a balancing act! Sam and Fuzzy is a comedy-action-drama, and I like to let each element have it's moment when it's appropriate. So you can certainly find some chunks of the archive that are almost totally devoid of jokes, like when Fuzzy and Hazel found the Pit.

That said, this current chapter is a very long one! And even though the stakes are very high right now, I think it would be pretty relentless if the story was dead serious for months and months of updates. So there are definitely some portions of the chapter that were written to skew comedic, and that press conference is one of them. It's an important event in human/inhuman history, but it's also kind of an inherently ridiculous moment... a crowd of human reporters who already know vampires are real are listening to a dinosaur explain talking cats to them while cities are flooding with magic goo. I think everyone is just in a state of disbelief!

"I’m sure I won’t be the first to ask, but what is your favorite desert?  The Sahara gets all the love, obviously, but the Salar de Uyuni salt flats are pretty interesting!  Some of our satellite tech and lithium batteries wouldn’t exist without it." -David

My favourite desert is Dust Hill Zone from Sonic Mania. It's a desert, and a saloon, and a pinball machine. Plus, it has this sweet jam!

(Also ok, yes, I meant dessert preferences. But points for commitment!)

That's a wrap for today! Come back on Wednesday for our next comic.

New Swag Now On Sale!

Good news, everyone!

The Vote Dog book is now available for everyone to order in my online store! This book collects all my Baker the Corgi, President Dog, and other critter-related comics in full colour. There are also a ton of brand new comics made just for the book, including a special one starring Chompy: the cat who looks like a dinosaur.

But that's not all! I also have a brand new shirt available! It's based on my ever-popular "Is It Food" comic, but carefully redrawn and redesigned to look pretty in shirt form. There are also Vote Dog Enamel Pins available to buy, too.

It's a veritable treasure trove of cartoon critter paraphernalia! And of course, there's tons of classic S&F merch and books in there, too, because, well... I have made a lot of stuff. I heartily encourage you to check it out!

We return on Monday with our next comic. And yes, our next Q and A feature, too, which I held off on today to get all these goodies up for you. See you next week!
