Move out

This week, we're having a little hang-out with shapeshifting extraordinaire Jess Star before we kick off our next big story. I hope you all enjoy this quality time together! Meanwhile, I'll be busy working my way through a sea of cardboard boxes. (We just moved, and the unpacking is endless!)

Incidentally, if you live in Vancouver... and it's not too uncouth to mention... I have a nice used couch and a spectacular used combo desk/drafting table that didn't join us and that we are hoping to sell. I feel a little silly posting about them here, but hey... they gotta go somewhere. If you are local and in the market for either, let me know!

Come back on Wednesday for more Jess and co. See you then!

And that's a wrap for the latest saga of President Dog! We return to the S&F cast next week -- specifically, to Jess Star, for some brief shape-shifter antics before our next chapter launches. Woo!

"Way back, in the Before-Time (or, 2003, which is basically the same thing), you said that if Sam and Fuzzy was a movie, the opening credits should be them riding around in the taxi to the tune of Quick and to the Pointless by QOTSA. If we were watching a movie of the current storyline - or, going through season 14(!) of a (naturally highly rated) TV show - what would the intro be now?" -Mads

Man, that's a good question! I still quite like that song, but I'm not sure it's the right vibe. To be honest, I'd probably be tempted to go with some sort of original big band jazz composition that's similarly chaotic-sounding... something short and noisy!

"Strips 2218 and 2219 probably explain it, but I'm not clear on what actually happened between Hazel and Brain after Sin put him in the grinder. Did Hart and [probably Candice] :

- find refuge in a remote corner of Hazel's mind

- then take control and switch to Brain's dying body" -Emilien

That's the gist of it, yes! Hart had lost his physical form, and his greatest desire was to use the "raw material" of Brain's form to rebuild it. So with no other options, he hid dormant inside Hazel's mind, biding his time and waiting for a moment of weakness. When Brain was seriously injured by the grinder, Hart took his shot and tried to sieze control before Brain was able to pull himself back together.

As we've now seen, Brain is still the (more or less) dominant pilot of his physical form, but he's now fighting for control with two other inhabitants... Hart, and an unexpected third party hijacker that came along for the ride.

Now... a lot of you (including Emilien) have already correctly guessed who that third party is, but don't feel bad if you haven't! That scene was a little artsy farsty and abstract way because I liked how creepy and ominous it read. But the specifics of who the third voice is and how exactly they got there are not intended to be a big mystery, and will be addressed pretty immediately the next time we see Brain.

"I think I've figured out what, or rather, who, is in the pit: ONLY 17th Century Chemist Robert Boyle!

And on that note I'll leave you to rewrite the ending so that I'm wrong." -Andrew

Ha!

You know something, though? I have never, ever changed a plot twist because people guessed it. Most plot twists are most satisfying if there is a little foreshadowing... and if there is foreshadowing, it means it's possible for people to guess! My attitude is: if you guessed it... Congratulations! It feels good to be right, doesn't it?

Come back on Monday, for fun times with Jess Star and co. See you then!
