Wait. THAT's HER normal form??? Okay, FINE. I guess it is.

I meant her original slug-form that she automatically reverts to if she gets exposed to sunlight. That's got to be the actual "normal" form. Right? Right?

...I wish I had shape-shifting so I could decide on what my "normal" form is... Not being able to be in direct sunlight isn't even THAT bad. I don't like direct sunlight anyway.

Yeah! Her normal form is human Jess... the form she identifies with and is used to holding for long periods of time. We actually translated that into a mechanic in the RPG: shapeshifting slug characters have one preferred form that they can hold indefinitely due to practice, while other forms are more of an effort/concentration.

Most shapeshifting slugs who lives outside the secret shapeshifter homeland have at least one preferred form that they spend most of their time in. None of them spend any time as slugs, because their slug forms are apparently so disturbing to look at that other creatures can't process what they're seeing.

(They actually don't spend much time as slugs at home, either, though. Shapeshifter societal norms are very anti-individuality and deem that citizens always adopt the most basic, featureless, nondescript shape compatible with whatever activity they are currently engaging in.)

That is what Jess is doing of course. The activities she is always engaging in are "being Jess" and "being awesome". Which are a bit redundant.

I think this flashback with Blank and Black is a few years before the one with Gert, which would make it the actual first chronological strip.

The "Young Adventures of Sam's Parents" is the prequel the world hungers for.

What would be the more fun storyline; Fig Pig as de facto king of the Valle De Los Monstuos and continuing current plot, or a 2 month side story where they help Figgy overcome a rival monster?
50-50. Unless the rival is, like, a giant panda or something cute. Then odds may shift.

I feel like the sound effects for the cliff cracking and falling to the ground was a missed opportunity for a pun. Kak! A-PO!

I giggled at those last couple of panels in today's strip a little more than I'd like to admit.

I'd groan, if it wasn't everything I wanted from this.
