Coloured Sam and Fuzzy

Postby Ukumio » Wed Sep 21, 2011 8:08 am

I got bored, so I decided to take a crack at colouring in the first comic of the current arc. I've left the last two panels clear to show what it normally looks like.

It's especially hard to colour Sam and Fuzzy because it's drawn so deliberately to be in black and white! There are a lot of big black chunks and shading/texturing lines that I don't draw in pictures I am intending to colour. (Like, say, the book covers or desktops.)

It was a good effort, though! I love seeing how different people envision the colour scheme of a particular scene.

I can't help thinking fuzzy's bowtie would be black. He seems like a formal dresswear kinda guy.

It does look pretty good! Bit dark, yeah, but still.

I'm saying even for that. Hollywood Darkness is a trope for a reason: so you can see shit!

That scene works well because the dialogue pretty much paints a picture of whats happening.. but yeah I get what Jim's saying.

Sam and Fuzzy in colour!? What is this? Burn the heretic!

Actually it looks pretty good, but I personally really like well-done black & white comics, it's part of the appeal of the comic. It's also why I'm refusing to buy the new colorized Bone books.

aww man last time Sam and Fuzzy was in colour I became a horrible racist.
Also I gotta agree with Jim, it's a little bit too dark, the first panel is pretty hard to understand.

... shit too dark... I'm doing it again!

The monitor I did this on was brighter but after viewing it on a friends I agree it is too dark. I have set myself a challenge of coloring the first chapter and then leaving it (why? because there is this big fricken cityscape and I cba coloring it all in, but if anyone asks it's because I respect Sam's comic style too much to ruin it with color).

I thought it was good. It's kind of cool seeing Sam's work in colour.

Looking at this on my phone reveals it not to be as dark as it is on my monitor. Its weird how much difference there is.

Wow, good work! You seem like a very creative person. I have been looking for someone to help me out with a logo design for my company. Maybe you can PM me and we can figure something out. But I love the designs you put into that piece of work! Nice!

LOL
I'm really sorry Ben. I didn't mean for it all to get out of control like that. Racism was and has been a hot topic around my area for awhile. The Un-Fair Campaign started in the city next to me and it's all about bringing racism to people's attention so they realize when or if they are being racist. Their slogan is "Racism: Ignore it and it won't go away." It's not just the white supremacists that are the problem, it's the employers not giving jobs to people of non-white ethnicity.
After how long it's been around though, people are starting to be desensitized to it all. I think that's a good thing if it burns all the desire to be racist out of people.
Again, sorry to have singled you out.
