Coldplay released a new album yesterday, Mylo Xyloto.

This album is very different than earlier Coldplay. It's a poppier version of Viva La Vida. The album is more electronic than previous Coldplay releases; lots of sweeping pads, synths, and even some vocal effects. The song Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall even sounds like a dance-pop anthem more than it sounds like typical Coldplay alt rock. Rihanna even sings on one track, though her voice blends beautifully with Chris Martin's.
That being said, musically it is still very much like Coldplay. There are plenty of fantastic melodies, beautiful piano parts, the occasional string section, and interesting time signatures (see Charlie Brown above).

Overall, pretty good album. A couple of fantastic songs, a couple of decent songs, not really any bad ones. It's just a very different album than Coldplay has ever released before. If you thought Viva La Vida was a real step down from earlier Coldplay, you'll most likely think Mylo Xyloto is worse.
