Another thing that always pissed me off about anime is that its fucking ridiculously expensive.

Seriosuly if I go to a shop and have two choices.
1 anime dvd with 4 eppisodes on for 30 bucks
or
Season 1 of Futurama for 35 bucks

Sorry but that just reeks of bullshit.

Dexter Season 1, 12 hours and 4 dvds cost me 35 bucks
FLCL, 3 hours and 3 discs cost me over 90 to collect all up.

There is something seriously wrong here.

They have to recoup their losses, man. We've all been duped into thinking that the anime companies use those long single still shots and stock transformation sequences to save money. Filming the same animation cel over and over again and reusing sections of previous episodes actually costs more.

I think it has something to do with it all being imported, mostly by companies that really don't have any presence outside of anime. But there is still no way that I am spending a hundred fscking dollars on a six-episode series.

In other news, "Happy!Smile!Hello!" is probably the most stick-in-your-head-iest song ever.

I have basically no idea what the series is about and don't intend to watch it, but it's adorable and I can't get that damned song out of my head.

I still think the catchiest song is the Shin Chan ending song.

Di Gi Charat is about a bunch of moe catgirls doing silly adorable moe catgirl things. Rinse, repeat. It's like replacing your eyes with glazed balls of caramel with powdered suger sprinkled over them. In other words, it'll give you cavities. In your brain.

I'm going to go ahead and recommend a bunch of American animation that you can get for much cheaper (and they're probably better than most Japanese stuff anyway).

  • Anything in the DC Animated Universe - This includes Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League of America, Justice League Unlimited, and Batman Beyond (and Static Shock I think maybe). The Batman ones are probably the best.
  • Futurama - If you don't know what this is I will punch you.
  • South Park - See Futurama.
  • The Venture Bros. - Great Adult Swim show which most revolves around parodying Johnny Quest and superhero cartoons. One of my favorites, plus season three is starting this summer I think.
  • Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law - Another Adult Swim show, starring mostly parodies of a bunch of old Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters. I guess it's also making fun of Lawyer tv shows. Plus both this and Venture Bros include voice work by Stepehen Colbert, so that's like +5 to awesome immediately.

I can't remember who Colbert voices in venture bros. I know it's one of the extended line of villains... I think..

It's the Mr. Fantastic knockoff. (Mr. Impossible I think is his name?)

Oh well, Colbert is, sometimes, overrated. Still, he does make for a great character almost all the time.

Matt, go find and watch 'Ice Station... IMPOSSIBLE!' It's one of the better episodes.

On the awsome western cartoons bandwagon.

Hellboy: Son of Storms
Hellboy: Blood and Iron

Both completly awsome.

Avatar: I'm pretty sure you americans have the full season box sets over there, seriously awsome show.

Sword of Storms is indeed awesome, but I haven't seen Blood and Iron yet. I'm glad Ron Perlman reprised his role in them, I really can't picture Hellboy's voice any different.
