Death Note: "I am so clever! I can hide a TV in a potato chip bag. I am soooo sneaky."

Bah I hate death note.

I'd rather watch Gakeun Alice or whatever it's called and then get depressed that I don't have powers... bah.

Death Note continually one-ups it's own cleverness until it's ridiculously stupid-complicated schemes that always go off without a hitch. If you enjoy yelling "THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, DAMNIT!", then it's the show for you.

It's a good thing I know he'd know I knew he'd know I knew that he'd know I'd know he'd knew that I know about him knowing about the fact I knew he was planning an alternate course of action based on the information that he knew I knew that he knows about me knowing about that knowing...

Technically it's actually Japanese and both translations are pretty equivalent.

I liked Death Note. Sure it got silly and a bit unbelievable, but it's still fun. And L is badass.

Watch the first half since it will rock your world. Watch the second half to see how it ends.

That's the thing, Death Note really was geared to end about halfway through, and should have. But I figure it's one of those situations where things were like, "Perfect. We'll wrap the plot in 2 months and... wholely crap we're really popular! Money? Okay, crap, umm... okay, here's what we'll do." And then it just wouldn't end.

I had already finished reading all of the manga, so I knew where things where going with the anime and just sort of lost track of it. But, the 6 episodes I did sit through were pretty cool. And I suppose it would be more enjoyable for someone that doesn't already know the plot and end.

I really liked the Death Note anime! Based on the art and the basic premise, I had assumed that it was going to be a big goth angst fest where everyone mopes about the moral consequences of killing. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was actually about completely remorseless, overconfident jerks screwing each other over in outlandish fashion. Kira and L's ridiculously convoluted schemes and utterly over-the-top attempts to outsmart each other are what make the whole show so enjoyable... I can't imagine myself enjoying it as much if they had toned that down.

It's true that some of the magic is lost after the major plot-change two thirds in, but the final episodes are still pretty fun. My understanding is that this last chunk of the show was very compressed compared to the comic, which might explain why it was not as frustrating.

I just really liked how they managed to make writing in a book seem exciting. The piece in the first episode (I think it was the first) where they show Kira writing and then it looks like he's slashing his victims with the pencil is really well done, one of my favorite scenes in any show (and the music is great).
