Welcome to the world of designer vinyl, where you pay a lot for really not that much. I think that price is a bit much for that guy though.. I'd hate to see the price of a custom. Those mongolions I get are about $65. But there's a one off custom going for $300.. I want it soo bad..
I'll post a pic when I get home.

Honestly I don't know how they justify the price.
I mean I could buy this guy

For 50 bucks and it's almost half a meter tall.

Yet that little guy is 90 bucks? What the fuck?

Its sold by artists to collectors normally they are limited runs or custom painted. They are more an artpiece than a toy. $90 is nothing. Do a search for nagnagnag or any KAWS figures.. Especially the KAWS COMPANION Robert Lazzarini version. That set of 3 goes for $900+. And they aren't even nice they are ugly as fuck. Especially the nags, dear god they hurt my eyes.

See I get the 1 off art piece thing, but my main thing is they're just so damm simple. A custom paint job can make something go for $300 is insane.
A fully custom sculpted megaman cut away figure that shows all the mechanics and inner workings is only like $220.

Just seems weird to me.

You photo didn't work.. but I did a search and is this what you were talking about?

Here's the One off Mongolion, thats going for $300, I was talking about:

Its seriously hot.. Epic effort on making it look ancient.
But this is was made for a "One Off" gallery show in NYC. Only one of these puppies (kittens) exist. So for a piece as impressive as this the price is crazy but its understandable. Also the main reason they slap these price figures on there, is because they can, and fools like me buy them. They keep the quantity low, the demand is high and the price figure is justified. Its a niche market. If they wanted to sell them but the box load they could, but that's not what these types of 'toys' are about.

Also the monetary value doesn't deplete on these guys.. unless the trend dies.. but even then there will be avid collectors wanting to complete their collection and will pay top dollar. I've seen a glowie Mongo on ebay going for $130.. that's twice retail.. however retail is sold out.. I'm tempted to get it..

Oh and here's that Nagnagnag I was talking about.. and the Kaws Companion.. I spoilered because the nag will hurt your eyes:
Spoiler: show

You can't link off that megaman network site dude.. it doesn't show up.. well for me it doesn't anyway.

Nah the mongolion is a base figure, that gets different repaints and colour variants. I have 7 of them now

The artist who made it all antique did the same effect to 3 different other figures aswell.

But yeah designer vinyl is really expensive.. but somewhat an investment if you buy select pieces.. but I don't buy them for that. Mongolion (and the Beetlar, I only have one of those tho) are the only ones I collect.. because they just scream awesome, and they're only $65 and they come out once every blue moon. I have a couple other little blind box guys, but they're cheap fodder made for the masses. To each their own though.. Its like I could never understood the appeal of customising your car yet here I am blowing about $400 on a new spoiler and soon about $2500 on some new rims and rubber :|

whoops I edited my last post instead of posting a new one... wow I'm kind of retarded.

Anyway yeah I guess it's each to there own, I'm sitting near $150 worth of nerf guns and have spent over $300 on transformers so really I'm in no position to argue :P

Technically I'm 50% wog.. and I've only owned my own car for about 18 months.. so... yeah... my little beast isn't going to be a fully sic wog mobile though, its japanese so I'm making it as JDM as I can without looking like a knob. I'll post up pics when the spoilers on.. which'll be soon (like hopefully by the end of the week).. Wheels will be a few months yet, waiting for the rubber to wear out.

$900 is a ridiculous sum of money, but these are still the coolest figures posted in the thread thus far.
