Jim's Junk Drawer

Guess I might as well have one of these. Will probably get around to posting some of my older stuff eventually, but for now . . .

I believe I am the first person to ever draw Wonder Woman taking a swing at the Burger King.

Haha, we are The Cartoon Heroes.

Is the Aqua version playing or is it the Yum Yum Orange version?

This seems like a good time to ask you, Jim. Comic Genesis. Why?

The interface hasn't been looked at since the renaissance, the support is nonexistent, the "beginner tutorial" is 80% dead links, and holy crap it's run by Keenspot of all people. I speak from experience when I say that it's terrible. I got nothing but grief, so what makes you stick around?

I'm not certain what you mean by the "interface", I've had no trouble with support (not that I've needed very much), the beginner tutorial is now located on the far superior CG Wiki, and since the change from Keenspace to Comic Genesis, Keenspot has pretty much left us alone. Which is the way we likes it.

I'm still with them because they're still free and continue to fulfill my needs, of which I have very few. And even if I moved Role of the Die elsewhere (and that would happen only if I actually start updating it again, which is still a pretty big if at the moment), G for Genesis would still most definitely stay there since it's based mostly on CG Forum people and happenings.

When I signed up for an account, I couldn't log into my admin panel, because of an apparent "wrong password". I sent emails to support and got no reply. I couldn't ask the forum because I couldn't log into that, either. Eventually I found that the older activation (which was plastered with DO NOT USE notes.) was the one that actually worked, and used an FTP to upload everything from then on.

Needless to say I switched to WCN the moment I found out it was free.

Hmm. Not sure if all the bugs were out of the system back then. Even if they were, it's possible the setup e-mails weren't quite caught up with the new way of things.

Still! After having time to review the situation (didn't have time during my previous post there, hadda go to work), I can think of a couple of things which might have happened.

The first and most obvious would be, was your account actually activated yet? It takes about a week for your account to go live after you've signed up for it, as should be mentioned in the sign-up e-mail.

The second and more probable would be, did you actually register for a forum account, or just for a comic account? 'Cause it's your forum account name and password that gets you on the forums and opens the new site admin, not your comic account. Once you get in there, then you use your comic account name and password to tie the comic account to the forum account. This is done for two reasons. First, it makes people definitely aware of the forums, which is where you'd get all the important news, information, and support for CG. And second, it allows people to manage multiple comic accounts more easily. I log into the site admin as Jim North (my forum account), for example, and both rotd and g4g (my comic accounts) are sitting there ready and waiting to be fiddled with. With the old site admin, you'd have to log out and log back in again each time you wanted to switch from one to the other.

Which, yah, the old site admin still works even now, despite all the "depreciated" notes on it. In fact, up until now, I was still using it because the new site admin would unmark all of my new posts on the forums when I logged out. But thanks to this little chat we're having I've found that they fixed that problem, so it's new site admin all the way for me!

Now, concerning support . . . having taken a look at the CG website, I can see that they've got STrRedWolf listed as their info contact, and there's your problem. Wolf is an idiot. You're rather better off having not gotten an answer back from him. The person you would've wanted to talk to was Lady Kisai, tho' she'd probably be late getting back to you too since she shoulders a hell of a lot of the burden at CG. Primary support is through the forums, tho'. Once you manage to get on there, support is most definitely non-non-existent.

Now, unless they've done a purge recently (I don't quite remember how recent the last one was, myself), your account may still be active there. If this post helps you get in there, you could always go and use it as a mirror for your WCN site.

Based on this strip. Was going to be part of something much larger, but I dunno if I'm going to be able to finish it.

A quick sketch that I did at work yesterday.

Image

Hello, Nathan.

For the past six years of your so-called "life", you have been a member of the profession known colloquially as "loan sharking", making your livelihood by ruining that of others.

But as you worked to collect the debts of the already destitute, you accrued a substantial debt of your own. A debt counted not in dollars and dimes, but in the currency of human pain and suffering.

As you have ever sought to charge an arm and a leg for your services, it seems only fitting that you pay the same. The tools required to sever yourself from the chains of debt are in the box next to you. But in order to find the key to the lock on that box, another aphorism concerning repayment must be observed . . .

An eye for an eye.

Life or limb, Nathan.

Make your choice.
