My first go at moddeling him

and I wasn't really happy with that so I started again from scratch, much happier with my second go.

Bit of constructive criticism: The second one is definitely an improvement, but the proportions still seem a little bit wonky, judging solely from that Vitruvian Man pose. I think what makes it seem off is the body to leg ratio; he's the proper number of heads tall/wide, but it seems like his legs are too long and his body's too short to compensate. Anatomically, your elbows are just about lined up with the bottom of your ribcage, but his look like they'd end up at his waist.

Like I said though, could just be a trick of the eye because of the pose. If you've taken all of that into account already and it's all right proportions wise, ignore me. It's definitely a great start for someone who's never done modeling before.
I'm not really working on anything at the moment, but here's a link to my tumblr anyway.

Oh how I wish Youtube had a proper scrub bar. I agree with Tekk though, proportions are wonky. Keep it up!

Did you put it together all as one model, or did you model the head, body and limbs separately?

I'd like to see a close up on the face.

Modeled the basics of the head seperatley, then attached it to the model and put on the details like the goggles and the beanie.
The head isn't very good, I'm really bad at modeling them, I'll render a close up for ya.

Close up of the head. I rendered one that made me realize how badly I fucked up the head (Ears way too low, weird poly's around the mouth) so had to redo a lot of it. The Ears are still kind of bodgy but you're not going to see them close up.

Final Model with some added details, added the bag, fixed up proportions and did the ropes around his shoes.
I finished unwrapping him last night so now it's just on to texturing.

I'm still debating that, I am thinking about trying something similar to the 2007 prince of persia game with a toon shader with more traditional textures.
I'm really interested in just making it look different then a lot of 3D stuff. Wich is why I've been trying to keep it pretty low poly.

"Stop playin' games with the Rapid 99!"

It looks like it'd be perfect for a Jet Set Radio style of cel-shading.

If you're considering cel shading in general [or just and non-photorealistc rendering], you probably know what to look at. That said, I'll throw out some names.

Yeah I don't really want to go full cell shaded like Viewtifull Joe or Wind Waker kind of style. I guess closest would be PoP. I want everything to still have a texture.

Zone of the Enders 2 used mixed cel shaders and normal models, that's a little different stylistically though.

Don't undersell yourself. You just haven't had a lot of time with the programs, yet.
