Canadaness

Hey, so I was sitting in my politics class and the discussion came to what Canadian identity is. Now I have a pretty good idea of what Canadian identity is from a Canadian perspective (Molson filled me in on that), but I was kinda wondering how we're really seen around the world.

So basically I'm asking, what is the world view of Canada.
  • Do we really count? I kinda see us somewhere between France and Spain in levels of relevance, or between Germany and Australia. Where would you place Canada?
  • What's the first thing you think of when you think of Canada? Stereotypes are probably what I'm looking for.
  • How would you see us compared to Australia? (I choose Australia because we're both nations born from England, with fairly similar populations and cultures)
I'm really not sure what I'm looking for here. I guess I'm just looking for a non-North American view on Canada. I'm not really looking for a US view, but something more removed.

Thanks. I think I can stop feeling insecure soon.

I'm pretty sure most Americans never even think of Canada.

I see canada as a place where artistic industries are flocking too.

While Film is going to Australia for shooting, Game studios are going up like wildfire in Canada.

Or maybe I just think that because Canadian studios stick out in my head more than American studios.

But really, I don't think Canadians really have as much of a cultural identity as most other nations. Also Canadians are pretty full of themselves; the education system spends a ridiculous amount of time teaching about Canadian history, which only really goes back around 200 years.

Oh it's down. Like, hell down. Like the down of a beautifully dainty, dove. And not that soft.

Canada, why don't you just give up and become a state already?

Canada is only relevant to American college students looking to get stoned and people looking to leech off cheap medical care. Otherwise, we dont' go, study it, or think about it.

The first thing I think of when I hear Canada is ABOOOOOOOOT, EH?

I, along with most Americans I think, know shit about either country but would rather vacation in Australia because the weather is nicer and they have platypus.

That is my stereotypical american answer.
