Hitting girls

It's going to be hard to even touch on this subject without sounding like an asshole, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to try.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the unwritten rule of not being allowed to hit girls. The phrase is a fairly new one, which I find odd considering it came about during the time when women were (and still are) striving to become equal to men in all things social, political, etc. since I think it seems to imply that women are weaker than men, but this is beside the point.

I had a discussion with some friends recently about this. Keep in mind I am not talking about spousal abuse, that's wrong no matter who's abusing who. What I mean though is that if a girl were to hit a guy out of anger, would it be wrong if the guy hit her back? Personally, I don't think it would be wrong, considering the person who throws the first punch is pretty much asking for a fight. But some people think that hitting a girl under any circumstance is wrong, which I find ridiculous.

For me, there are very, very few reasons I would ever hit anyone, but if someone were to piss me off to the point of actually hitting them, I would do so whether the agitator were male or female.

I never said it would, but I know this. What bothers me is how so many people would consider it worse, and give harsher punishments if one were to hit a girl out of anger (or even not out of anger) than were it a male.

I am very reluctant to hit girls, from a moral standpoint. I have been in a situation where a coworker who I always had problems with was pretty much verbally abusing me, and the only thing that kept me from getting in her face was that she was a girl. (Lucky for me! I had been kind of sheltered up to that point as it was my first job, and I had been homeschooled my whole life. I had to adjust to not getting so angry at being verbally and vulgarly maligned).

I think it comes down to chivalry with me. If a girl was attacking me, I would be as defensive as possible while just trying to exit the situation. I can only see myself acting offensively towards a girl if it was to protect another person. I am kind of extreme though, most of my friends aren't as uptight about it. I guess I was raised with more gentility pounded into my head.

Oh, and this is all "hitting" as in hitting with intent to cause harm. Playful pushing or light shoving (although I am much more restrained in my coed "horsing around" than some guys I know), or physical contact from agreed upon games does not count.

My policy on hitting girls out of anger: Every reaction has an equal and opposite reaction.

Actually I think all the times I started a fight was from taking the first hit, giving me a good excuse (for me anyways) to fight back.

thats one reason i hate certain feminists. Some protest against films that show violence towards women and say ooh its bad because it makes hitting women look entertaining (recently for death proof, how dumb). but thats just stupid because you could say the same thing about men getting beaten up in films.


Usually hitting a woman is almost always related to domestic violence .
It is good thing to frown upon wife beaters, but its sad that we don't take the same approach for men who are beaten by their wifes, because it does happen and theres almost nothing out there to help them compared to what help women can get.
And its our social stereotyping thats to blame. We see men as being more brutish and violent.
If a bloke is hit by a women its more negative on him than her. Whereas the other way round he would be arrested almost instantly.

In reality, you shouldn't really hit anyone in anger, male or female. tho there are a few people out there who deserve a slap.

Yeah, hitting girls is a bit of a weird thing. I don't really have a firm standpoint on the issue. But I'm going to make a few points that apply to a lot of girls, not all girls.

From a highly general standpoint (taking averages rather than any specific b vs g scenario) girls are physically weaker than boys, I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure it's true from a biological standpoint. I mean it's one of those 'common knowledge' things, so it could be complete bullshit, but I'll go with it for now.
That said, girls supposedly do have a higher tolerance for pain (the whole childbirth thing).

Most girls don't get as much practice as boys in fighting when they're kids. All this really means is that a lot of them aren't as good at not getting hurt.

Do those points mean you shouldn't hit a girl? Not especially. You should be more careful than if you were hitting a guy, I guess.

Other points to consider when deciding whether to fight a girl:

Girls will fight dirty. You might be punching and kicking, but they will use nails and teeth. Also, most of them have no problem whatsoever with kicking you in the balls.

If a really bitchy girl decides she can hit you for no good reason, there's a decent chance she doesn't think you'll hit back cause she's a girl. Personally, I would suggest just knocking her to the ground or getting another girl to hit her.

Just remember that if it comes to people who didn't see what happens, You will look like the jackass. And it will be because you hit a girl even if she hit you first. Even if she's a foot taller than you and a lot bigger otherwise.

I think the first problem here is the idea that people are saying "well if she throws the first punch, don't I have a right to punch her back?" Nope. You most certainly do not. However, neither do you against a dude. Unless it is absolutely necessary for your safety, you shouldn't be returning blows anyhow. Feel like a bitch for running from a fight? Cry me a river. Unless you're are in danger (which is totally different) you have two choices, leave (possibly accompanied by quickly shoving of the person to the ground if necessary to make a hasty getaway) and be the better person, or stay and fight and accomplish nothing other than continuing a circle of meaningless violence.

Otherwise I agree with Uno and Mix pretty much entirely. Right on, ladies.

Beside the times i fight my sister, I never hit girls unless I'm horsing around (SIDEBAR: has anyone else noticed what a weird term that is? horsing around..meh).

But if on some odd day a girl starts some shit with me or anybody else I know, bitch it's going down. You could be the daintiest little flower or a big hulking bull dike. FIGHT YOU! Now mind you I would be more on the defensive (but I'd be like that with a guy too)

I'll kick a chick's ass just like I would a guy under the same circumstance. Gender shouldn't play a part in it.

That said, I've never been provoked enough to fight someone and I hope I never am.

Meh, I've gone over this issue several times in my head, not many women have "attacked" me in recent years, when things HAVE gotten a bit "hairy" I normally just try to restrain them at the wrists, or, If I feel REALLy dirty, try and tickle them.

But in serious instances of sheer anger and attack, I would probably just shove said female off, and walk away.
