If realism means "brown and more brown", then no thanks. I do not like brown that much.

I never really got to play games durring the Sprite era, but nowadays, I can't really see a reason to make them [except for handhelds and XBLA titles].

The problem is that, in order to take something like Street fighter and bring it into this era, it would be harder to animate something like that with the painterly details that are demanded of such a title.

Cel-shaded games would work well, though, but there's no reason to buy an expensive system when the horsepower isn't needed.

If you're interested, I'd check out a game called Aquaria.

I don't know, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix's sprites are looking pretty sweet.

Pretty 2D titles do require horsepower. One of The Behemoth's concerns when making their 2D games like Alien Hominid was RAM usage. They weren't just working in some land where they had infinite resources at their fingertips when using their high pixel sprites and had lots of things going on at once on screen. One of the reasons for this is because they don't bother to put very powerful 2D capabilities in current consoles however.
It is imperative that you read Cal Neuvost's Treatises of Extraordinary Consequence.

I cried: "I must be free!" And yet,
Full was I with regret
When surf cried back with wet decree.

It's being animated at the same frame rate as Street FIghter 2 (Wich was shit if you'll try and remember) To do something with art like that at the frame rate of Street Fighter 3 is basicly impossible, there was a big discussion on it in the general gaming thread after the SF4 trailer got released.

Personly I'm a fan of 2D games, esspecialy fighters because they really haven't made a 3D fighter that plays the same as a 2D one yet despite trying. Also hi-res sprites are usualy gorgeous, that said I'm aware of how ridiculously impratcitcle sprites are in todays industry, and really the general art direction is far more important then what medium it is in.

Much better than most 3d PS1/N64 games.

A steaming pile of blury shit looked better then most PS1 or N64 games.

The only thing about new games that gets me is how 'real' graphics tend to look like plastic. Dry dirt shouldn't be shiny as you pan a camera over it! Something about the way they render graphics in a lot of new games, mostly fps, really makes me motion sick too. I think the only new games I've played that haven't done it have been Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. But like Condemned when I first played it, I actually had to lay down inside of 20 minutes.

That being said, the more realistic they can make the environments in a game is a big point for me. Bioshock and Oblivion are two good examples of very well done settings for a game, and personally that's what I want more of. Well, that and physics playing a bigger part in interacting with the environment. Gunshots on objects that don't have a small preset group of reactions, explosions happening realistically, destructible buildings and foliage that doesn't break the same way like it's pre-scripted. Things like that.
I think this is a signature, I can tell by the text, and from seeing quite a few signatures in my time.

I had the same issue with a couple of my Wii games; after playing for a while I started feeling sick. I find that while Halo 3 doesn't have the same effect, the graphics are far more distracting than they were in Halo 2. I can't concentrate.

Call of Duty (2) didn't have me motion sick, it had me shell-shocked.

Call of Duty 2 is probably the best launch game for the 360. It didn't looks like crappy amalgam of old gen mixed with new gen. It wasn't of the same quality as say Hlo 3 or Mass Effect in quality, but it didn't have the plastic feel of Starcraft II's current build.

Yea that's the problem with these next gens, there's this halo around everything. I think it's bump mapping or something with the lighting that's fucking everything up, but I really don't know much about these things.

It's simple as that, it's simple as that, it's simple as that for your stupid ass.
