Cal Neuvost's Treatises of Extraordinary Consequence

Postby Neuvost » Sun Jan 13, 2008 1:04 am

I've been doing a lot of writing lately, and I've decided to put the fruits of this labor up on a blog and unleash it into the world wide blogosphere interwebnet. Bookmark this bitch! I'd like your comments and suggestions!

"Giants of the Jungle Planet" is a fifties style sci-fi. It's the longest piece, but I think you'll find it's worth your time.

"The Unfathomable Idea of Buying Crazy" is a short nonfiction. It will do nothing to dissuade my reputation as forum druggy.

"The Bottom of a Glass and the Bathroom Floor" is a short dramatic screenplay in PDF format.

"First Tour" is a short military sci-fi.

"Lament of the Machine" is a sci-fi sonnet. This connects to the graphic novel I'm currently planning and writing.

I would also like suggestions on the site itself from the design oriented out there.

I cried: "I must be free!" And yet,
Full was I with regret
When surf cried back with wet decree.

So far I've only read "Giants of the Jungle Planet", and it was actually pretty awesome. I'll be sure to check out your other stuff.

Buying Crazy is brilliant and I encourage the sharing of the video if you still have it.

I've always found white text on a black background uncomfortable on the eyes. It might be worth reconsidering the colours to make it a little easier to read.

Good stories though.

You should know that I really liked how "Giant of the Jungle Planet" came out, but I'll try reading through the rest of them at some point.

It's simple as that, it's simple as that, it's simple as that for your stupid ass.

Thanks! I still like a lot of the ideas that we came up with together for the story that I wasn't able to fit in. I may at some point extend the scope and length of the story to allow for some of the crazier shit we were talking about. You were a great help in writing this story!

Thanks, but no, never.

The colors were where I wasn't sure. I was going to put the actual content in a white box with black lettering, but coding around Blogger's code is tough and I couldn't make it look the way I it wanted to. I personally find reading white letters on a black background much, much easier than black letters on a big white background (ow ow ow!), but maybe a light gray rather than white?

And thanks everybody!

Definitely light grey over white. Just started planning a blog, and yours actually is pretty close to what I want mine to look like. I'm a fan of typewriter-inspired fonts.

Haven't actually read any stories yet, but I'll get on that tomorrow when I'm more awake.

The font is perfect. For colour perhaps black font on either a grey or light blue background would be good.

Trespassing through a graveyard before dawn,
A ghastly wind sweeps through the murky air.
It begins to rain, but I must press on.
A chill runs down my spine—I breathe a prayer.
I step now carelessly atop the dead—
Ground breaks below—I disbelieve my sight.
A hand protrudes to leave its earthly bed,
And another form joins me in the night.

Its flesh, no tone of man, but gray instead.
It moans—proclaiming its unholy blight,
But its blood red eyes hold me to the spot.
Stumbling forth, intent I soon be dead.
Teeth sink into my skin, ending my fight.
Now dead alive—I shall not lay and rot.

Any suggestions/criticisms/title ideas?

It's good, I like the mood. I tend to like syllabic balance when I'm reading a poem, so there are a few lines you could easily cut syllables from to even it up. Also the lines beginning with 'and' and 'but' could easily do without those words, I think.

No, it's all iambic pentameter provided you pronounce prayer as one syllable as most of us do. So changing it would make it not a sonnet.
