I would have if it were not for the fact that I deleted my facebook account for a variety of reasons. One of which was people that I regret hanging out with finding me and going "Man! We haven't talked in so long! We should get together sometime!"

you could always set your account to private or block them first so they don't know you exist on facebook

But the thing that gets me confused is the people that initiate the conversation but dont follow up. WHY BOTHER SAYING HELLO IN THE FIRST PLACE!
