yay textures.

Ed Harris: Massive CG tutorial base (for Softimage XSI, different software but sometimes same methods) http://www.edharriss.com/

Digital Tutors: Tutorials for- Maya, 3D Max, Houdini, Softimage, Zbrush, Mental Ray, Modo, Realflow, Mudbox, Photoshop,Flash, After Effects etc. Some are free some are not.
Though if you see the DVD boxes the discs contain folders which are easy to copy.

Don't know how to use your tablet/Painter/Corel/Photoshop?

This should help.

Hey anyone know how to do tone patterns on photoshop? Tones like you'd find in the newspaper or graphic novels. Actually I could just put them down like I do with normal textures. Anyone know where I can find tone textures?

Photoshop screentone rundown, with some somewhat decent sample tones in a zipfile.
Two other not so decent tones packs: one, two.
I swear I had a tutorial Josh Lesnick did about how he tones Girly, but I cannot find it.
If you're looking for a really good way of doing tones, I'd highly recommend picking up Manga Studio Debut. It's got a ton of canned screentones and other comic handy stuff, and it's only forty bucks. I believe Meredith Gran uses Debut to do Octo-pie if I'm not mistaken. John Allison also uses it (the full version) to do Scary-Go-Round now, and wrote up a helpful review on it here.

I've come to appreciate screentoning quite a bit.

So this summer I want to learn how to draw better (i.e. learn how to draw at all). Right now, I can draw some things... Kind of... Give me an hour and a half and a little bit of luck and I can probably draw you something that's suitable. But I want to get good at drawing because I'm more of a visual person than a writer, so I figure that If I can draw out scenes, settings, or character from my stories, or even just random things that pop into my mind (because when ideas pop into my mind, they're usually in picture form and I have to put them into words), maybe it'll help my writing.

Who has links to any simple, basic, noobie drawing tips and instructions?

Does the half-tone filter do what you want or no? I did used to have a tutorial how to get the grain right but playing with the half-tone filter was most of it.

I'm not sure if this belongs in the tutorials exchange, but it's not worth making a whole thread for.
The previous version of Anime Studio, Anime Studio 5, is currently being offered for free via the company's NorthAm site. (The same guys as Manga Studio.) It seems to be the full version, not debut, and not just a 30 day trial. I just typed gibberish into the account fields and it still let me download it and gave me a product key. Flash animations for everyone!

Edit: There seems to be some speculation now that it is a 30 day free trail (the buxr link changed anyway), but they never asked for a credit card number, so I think that might just be general fine print for the checkout. I'll wait and see.

Edit: Well, I installed it, put in the product key I was given, and the "trial" became the full version. All the fine print I read seems legit too. The most recent comments on it from Consumerist seem to agree that it is a free, full version.

Edit once again: Okay, yes. It is confirmed to be a free full version that never expires. Good. I barely even care anymore.

Well, here's a similar, but probably not as interesting, offer. Corel Paint Shop Pro 10 is free this week too.

When you finished going through the checkout, the last page gave you your product key number. Did you paste that in? Until you enter it, it runs in trial mode.

I got two, just in case I even wanted to have it on two computers at once. I'll pm my spare code to you.
Since the deal has expired, it'd be a good idea to throw the install file and key onto a disk for backup. (It's what the company recommended too, surprisingly enough.)
