It has its few flaws, sure, but it isn't nearly as bad as people have panned it to be. Yes, it is written mainly for teenage girls, but there are parts of it that I find fascinating. For example, I'm intrigued by the concept of a vampire family trying to live a normal life in a quiet town. Plus, there is a hint of a werewolf vs. vampire plot that I believe appears in the sequels.
Needless to say, it is immensely more enjoyable than the movie, and I suggest giving it a read if you are bored and have nothing else to browse through.
