Fake New York Post

Seems like an interesting idea. Someone printed and distributed a fake New York post, all about climate change. Aparently all the stories are true.

The link to the whole thing.

It's unfortunate that we have to get real news from fake newspapers. It's like the Daily Show all over again.

That would be funnier if it wasn't true.

Speaking of fake news, two writers from the Onion spoke at my school yesterday (I organized the event!). When asked what their favorite real news sources were, they said BBC America.

You can get some decent news coverage in America by reading newspapers. However, any broadcast news, especially CNN and FoxNews is complete garbage. The best they can offer is covering breaking news that just happened like a bomb going off or something.

American News is all about twisting the facts to make whatever it is you're talking about seem bad or evil.
When the President had his big speech about Health Care, news channels focused more on the guy who heckled him rather than what was in the speech itself. Our media system has royally been fucked, and it sucks. A lot. There really isn't a good American news source beyond the newspapers.

Fox particularly has just gotten painful to watch. It's the fact that they have no problem making things up that bothers me the most. Especially on Health Care and post-election. I've always felt that news should present purely the facts of an issue, without any opinion attached, Conservative or Liberal. BBC and CBC are about all I can stand nowadays. Pundits have ruined the news service. It's a sad state of affairs when the most reasonable and informative news pieces come from fake-news comedy shows.

American news is all about ratings and not about actually reporting important or necessarily real information. Fake news (like the Daily Show) gets ratings by pointing out how stupid real news is, which is why it's often a better source of actual news. Plus on the fake news, they always make it obvious what news isn't actually true.

That's really the heart of the issue. Pundits make their living by being wild edgy (Olbermann, O'Reily, Glenn Beck) and twisting things out of context to make so radical crazy point. Everything they say is so batshit crazy half the time that you can't help but watch. It's like a train wreck.

And that train wreck is what brings in the ratings for news networks, and ratings equals more advertisement (re: money). So those pundits will never go away.

What's worse, is that the condescending, gotta-put-a-spin on it type of broadcast is seeping into regular reporters who are supposed to just present the news.

I really wish they'd reform the news system, but unfortunately, no one really has the power to do that.
If all the news stations finally decided, "Enough is enough; it's time for an overhaul" maybe they'd accomplish something. However, that'll never happen because what they're doing now is working for them; they get the money, and we get to know nothing.

Well it is a commercial system, if the ratings dropped, people complained or enough sponsors left them something could change, which is likely if more people move to the internet for news sourcing and watch less telly news (tho a lot are using the web to reach more audiences).
I think they confuse getting ratings with being entertaining, wouldn't be surprised if more news networks try and squeeze in comedic anchors to get a daily show/colbert audience draw (doesn't glen beck consider himself a comedian?...*shudder*).

Plus BBC has gotten pretty rubbish since 24hour news, the best shows seem to be the ones where they spend the day absorbing and researching the stories, then report it within 24 hours or the next day (channel 4 and BBC Newsnight tend to do this)

ooh just saw on twitter Larry King is going to interview mahmoud ahmadinejad.
