For those that maybe new to this, or just want to wax nostalgic, here are previous years as examples:
SS2008 and gifts.
SS2007 and gifts.
There are older examples in Ye Olde Forume Archive, if you want to go diving, but most of the link are dead by now anyway.
Rules are straight forward but bear repeating (paraphrased from previous years):
1) If you want to sign up, just say so in this thread. An updating list of participants will go at the bottom of this first post. If you sign up and it looks like I might have missed you in the list somehow, remind me. I don't want to miss anyone.
2) The deadline for sign up is December 1st. You have until then to decide if you want to participate. Or, if real life rears its ugly head and you have to, drop out. On December 1st, participating names go in the old tophat, get matched up, and assignments will be PM'ed to each of you.
3) "Presents" in this case are in the form of you creating something. A picture, a short comic, prose, poetry, music, it's all good. So long as it can be posted in the forum, your imagination is the only limit.
You do not have to spend money, give out an address, or put anything in the mail.
4) When you are done, PM your present, or a link to it, to me, not your intended recipient. It's supposed to be a secret after all. Maybe remind me in the PM who it's for though, so I don't accidentally cross my wires.
Deadline for gifts is anytime up until Christmas Eve (Dec. 24th). On Christmas Eve, I'll make a new thread and post all the gifts in it for everyone. I haven't decided yet whether to keep the makers a secret for the first day, then post them later, or just put the giver right up there with the gift and the recipient. We've done it both ways over the years. Personally, I favour the delayed surprise, but I'll go with the majority rule here.
I've got to be realistic, since it always happens to a few, but if you lock yourself in to participate, please try and actually get your gift done. If you can't help being a little late, fine, either send it to me and I'll post it, or just post it in the gift thread yourself. There's no real penalty that will work to dissuade absent gifts, but at the very least know that you will have my crushing disappointment.
I know we're a bunch of procrastinators here, myself included, but start early is the best advice.
More to come as I think of it.
Let's have some holiday fun!
Disclaimer: We honestly don't care if you celebrate Christmas or not. This is just a fun thing to do, all religions or lack of religion welcome.
