How are you getting that glow effect around the flames? I used to know how and I know it's something fairly simple, but hell if I could figure it out earlier today.

Those were just using the fuzzy brush tool on the layer under them, but what I imagine you're actually looking for is Layer -> Layer Style -> Outer Glow.
