The lines work fine for me, they go with the whole clean, sharp style you're working with. It's hard to take Ben's advice for Tekk cause the styles are so totally different; they both work in their own ways.

I don't mean to do it too dramatically, just subtle differences in the line weight can really lend depth to an image.

I was under the assumption that this shit was par for the course by now. At least there aren't any tentacles in this one.

The uniform line weight is something I've been conscious of for years, but I've always kind of put off developing. I've always hated Photoshop's simulated line pressure option; the lack of control of where the taper is thickest is just something I'd rather not bother with as opposed to finding a work-around. It's part of the reason I've been trying out that totally lineless style that the pokemon pictures were in, but that's not gonna work everywhere... one thing at a time, I guess.

yeah the simulated line pressure thing is a dick, but really it's just a matter of learning how to draw the lines.

I'm not really sure how long you keep the path's at the moment but it's really just a matter of keeping the paths nice and long. Usually only stopping when you actually want the line to completley tapper off. It also helps if you taper off early, then the next path you draw starts going over the end of the previous line.

That or you could just draw it on paper with a pen :P

Or you could go the other way to Ligne claire. Hergé knew what he was doing.

Thanks, grandma. Why doesn't he just carve it into wood and make prints?

duh, everyone knows you use lino now. Easier to carve. (Also you should totaly try doing lino prints your style would suite it well and they're heaps of fun)

One thing that I did in illustrator was draw the actual features, then make a separate shape for each line. Not a line path, but a closed shape that defined my picture. This one isn't a line drawing, but it follows that technique.

Who said I never listen to you guys?

Inks done with a brush pen and shading done with some super super basic homemade screentones. Just experimenting.

Oh, have I mentioned that I've been using Tumblr? Because... yeah.

awesome to see you experimenting.

Some suggestions for screen tone though, instead of using noise, use a sequence of repeating shapes with the pattern stamp tool.

You realise there is a filter in PS called halftone. Which is basically made for screentoning.

Holy crap 2-bit scanning solves so many ink problems. Why didn't I do this sooner?!

I always encourage Photoshop hates control line pressure, which is taper thickest lack of control as opposed to just finding was not worried with not work around. Because of this I'm trying out that style completely lineless Pokemon pictures were part of that, but it is not that will work everywhere.
