Why so racist?

I know, just opening a can or worms here, but why are some people on this forum so racist?
Racism is so trite.
Why not focus hate towards a type of person rather than a color of person? In my opinion and from experience: It doesn't matter what color a person is, anyone can be a douche given the proper upbringing and environment.
So what's the beef?

I don't think anyone on this forum is inherently Racist... we just make bad, morally reprehensible jokes because of white privilege. While none of us feel any person should be subject to different treatment based on ethnicity, I think we're too comfortable with the established (and inherently unfair) status quo that challenging it at this point would cause us to depart from the path of least resistance. Until we become uncomfortable with the situation, it will likely never change.

In all seriousness though.. none of us are really racist racist.. we might poke a joke every now and then I suppose (re: above) but if you can't laugh in the face of racism (as long as its not hateful) well gosh darn it, whats the point.

Jim North called Ben out on it, but only sort of. No one else really cared, but it's hard for me to just ignore something like that.
As for Ben's signature. I gotta say I've known plenty of white people who steal. In fact I personally know a couple "nice" white girls who surprised me by stealing a man's credit card right out of his car at the gym where I worked. You think you know someone... anyways....

I go back to my original post: it's easier to ignore than it is to call out, since it doesn't affect me. Until I'm uncomfortable with it, I, unfortunately, won't point it out.

I'm getting better about calling out anti-female or anti-gay speech, but race is still a battle I have a hard time fighting.

To be honest, I still use the word "Bitchin'" as a synonym for the word awesome, even though I realize it may be degrading. I'm trying to improve the vocabulary I use, and Race comes up so infrequently in my opinion that I don't end up looking for it.

Though I barely ever read the official Comic thread, which is why I missed Ben's thing.
