I was listening to NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me in the car on the way to Montreal today, and they had President Bill Clinton answer questions about My Little Pony; Friendship is Magic.
I guess the term for a fully grown man who still watches My Little Pony is a Brony.

I honestly don't get the whole my little pony thing. It's just... a show.

I mean it's not bad, it's the kind of show I might watch if it happens to be on but I'm not going to go out of my way to watch it.

I think part of it is that no one expected this show to be good. The new G.I. Joe cartoon, for example, is also very good, but I was expecting that.

I don't think surprise that it doesn't suck really accounts for the level of hype it's getting. I mean they had to bring in new rules on 4chan to stop it being flooded with pony threads. It's fucking crazy.

Lauren Faust, for one. She's responded directly to /co/ threads on numerous occasions, as have plenty of other comics and cartoon creators. Hell, there's an upcoming episode of Adventure Time (with Fionna and Cake) that was more or less inspired by a 4chan thread.

I wish I had a macro that would type out "4chan is not /b/" for me.

I say it is more of a fervor for ponies that only extreme dedication to a large pony-based project can fulfill.

Also realize that hype for each individual tends to get multiplied the more people that are hyped about something.
