I think I might be racist against Jamaicans. They come into the electronics area of my store, primarily with questions about and problems with cellphones, and they always have this completely offhanded way of demanding I do every damn thing for them. I've learned just recently that this isn't just a cellphone thing (I was beginning to wonder, honestly) but a product of Jamaica having open-air markets where people will almost literally do any-damn-thing to get customers to buy their stuff, short of actually slitting each others throats in broad daylight. And from the way it was told to me, I'm not even sure they might stop at that. So they're apparently just used to folks selling stuff to just wait on them hand and foot like they're royalty or somethin'.

Really, I'm perfectly happy with helping customers figure out their stuff, showing them how things work and even putting it all together for them. What I don't like is the attitude Jamaicans bring to it, the way they seem to just assume that I'm there to be their personal techie slave. And even though I do now understand why they're like that, it still grates on my privileged white American sensibilities, giving me the urge to shove their shit back at them and tell them "Figure it out your own damn self, bitch". It makes me feel like I'm dealing with a pack of spoiled four year olds.

So, yup, turns out I'm probably racist, you guys. Guess I'll just go sit in the prejudice corner with Ben. We're race-hatin' homeboys now.
