You've got a lot of fucking nerve bringing logic into a comic book discussion.

If I weren't such a shameless self-promotion whore, I'd sig this.

Man I'm not even really arguing for the cartoon version of Starfire to be in the comics. I thought she was pretty annoying too. I'm just wishing they had made a better version than what they did. A version that I could give to somebody who maybe watched the show or has a vague interest in comics and not be horribly ashamed. Same thing is true about Catwoman. There's a difference between just being bad and being offensive/embarrassing for the comics industry (and by extension, people who read comics).

Agrajag wrote:Yeah, it's not that they're for or against the cartoon specifically, they're just pro-whatever the best version of the character is. Cartoon Starfire is clearly superior. I would argue that Oracle Barbara Gordon is way better than Batgirl-version (and lots of people seem to agree with that).

I like the way I said it better 'cause I got to be a sarcastic asshole.

You meant Cassie, of course.

Up until she was RUINED 4EVER, anyway.

so anyone else see the superhero redesigns by the dresden codack dude?

http://dresdencodak.tumblr.com/post/108 ... -redesigns

Honestly for the most part they're pretty bad. But I would read the fuck out of an elseworld for that Wonderwoman one.

His biggest problem is that he loses any recognisability for the characters. Starfire looks like she should be in the Legion of Superheroes cartoon. Dr Strange looks like some generic victorian era dude. Ms Marvel looks like Ultimate Captain Marvel with tits. And Superman is... martian manhunter?
I remember one of the first things I read about doing re-designs was that if you have to say who the character is you've failed. And except for Wonderwoman and Superman every redesign here fails the test.

Also gotta take issue with the Strange one cause he allready had a fucking perfect redesign for The Oath.

Still completely recognizable as Strange without dropping any of his iconography while still making him look far more modern and less tragically 70's.

He says he wants to make Wonder Woman less like "girl Superman", and then proceeds to take away one of the few powers she has that Superman doesn't? What?

Also, if you put a belt outside of a shirt, it's going to look like a skirt no matter how short it is.

Concidently enough he's just done the rest of the justice leauge.

They're better then the last lost I have to admit. (Superman is still retarded) but there's still a lot of dumb going around.

He says he wanted to change up Martian Manhunters power set so it doesn't go into as many of supermans. So he's going to be more focused on shape shifting.

Except then Superman is now a shape shifter? The green Lantern one looks decent because... it's just a green lantern costume. He didn't redesign shit other then going "What if they didn't use a ring?" Wich removes a lot of the visual language for there powers. I mean in theory it's fine and all untill you want to draw someone in a dramatic fight using there powers and it's just them standing there with dinosaurs comming out of there chest.

Flash I actually dig the costume but the origin is stupid. Basically "Insert Angst here" Also ditching the whole speed force fixing problems by having him design a specific dopler shifting visor and shit just brings up a whole shitload more problems. The Cyborg is just the dude from the It crowd with a robot arm. That's kind of lame. I actually like the Power girl one (Though needs red instead of blue) but I swear I've seen it on project rooftop.

To be fair WW's lasso of truth hasn't been totally cut out, it's now a shield of truth, and he says Superman willingly chooses not to use his shapeshifting powers because he doesn't want to alert anyone to his true origins (since in the DCDC [haw] Kryptonians are to be killed on sight).

While there maybe be some issues here and there with his redesigns (and I actually mostly disagree with everything you've complained about), I would read the shit out of that version of the Justice League and I have pretty much no interest in any of the current DC stuff. So on that level, great success?

The more I read, the more it sounds like he just wants to make every member of the team into himself and turn it into the Justice League of Aaron Diazes.

What I dislike most about it is the skewing of everything closer to hard sci-fi. Superman's more alien form, the renaming of Brainiac, the Clarkeizing of Wonder Woman, the chest harness that makes nanobots instead of solid energy, and the replacement of the speed force with a helmet all seem to be motivated by this common agenda. In my past experience, I've found that trying to appease science buffs is usually a futile endeavor. Superhero comics are one of the last bastions of soft sci-fi, and it would be a shame to lose that.

But the worst victim is Cyborg. The irony of him being an athlete is the entire point of that character. But there's no place for sports jocks in the geek paradise that is the DCDCU, so here comes Victor Stone the skinny super-hacker.

Welcome to Aaron Diaz 101. EVERYTHING MUST BE CYBORGS OH GOD ROBOTS GET ME MOIST SEND HELP

I noticed immediately how he was all "oh yes I think making Flash hate his powers is a great unexplored angle" when Cyborg is ALREADY EXACTLY THAT and he CUT THAT PART OUT (because, and I quote, it was "archaic") but heaven forbid someone not want Diaz' utopian wet dream of humans being immortal nanomachine clusters with sweet guns for hands.

I figured out what's bugging the shit out of me about his superman (Besides the obvious LOL SHAPESHIFTER!) bullshit.

It's fucking captain marvel.

The half length cape, the button shirt, the boots, hell even the short sleeves make it look like Marvels arm braces. Hell recolour him red and it would barley count as a redesign
