The main problem being Toby McGuire.

McGuire really fucking ruined those movies. I still rekon that Topher Grace would have been the perfect Spidey.

Also saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol last night. was really good.

Who was whitewashed in Batman Begins/Dark Knight? I feel like Batman was already pretty white.

Bane isn't a white guy. R'as al Ghul isn't a white guy. Tom Hardy and Liam Neeson are white guys.

Still, I don't really think Nolan is "whitewashing" just because of that.

I guess the lesson is whitewashing is okay as long as it's only the bad guys. :?

If changing the only minority characters to white isn't white washing something then what is? I thought that was kind of the defenition of white washing something?(Also depending on universe, Two Face and Catwoman aren't always white either)

Ra's isn't white? He looks pretty white in every version I've seen. I guess he's suppose to be middle eastern?

Well, there's a difference between the whitewashing in Avatar, where's they're Eskimos living in the South Pole but yet are still white people somehow, and the whitewashing in Batman, where the character's race is a minor, oft-forgotten detail. As a prime example:

Or, alternatively, Notify me when you find a picture in here that looks like a Hispanic guy.

In Nolan's defense, Lucius Fox is still black.

He's a freaking luchadore wearing a luchadore mask. His defining visual features are his size and his luchadore mask. Wich well... both are gone. Wich kind of ties into the whole I don't think Nolan actually likes Batman comics thing.

Or the whole comics are sometimes kind of stupid and maybe you need to alter a bad guy for him to be at all interesting lest you end up with another Mr Freeze, which, while amusing in an awful kind of way, made for a not very good movie. Thing.

"Luchadore" isn't a race, bro.

Things are rebooted and costumes changed so many times in comics, I don't think changing a physical appearance is a big thing. It's also not like it's directly based on any specific comic, it's always been more of a loose adaption. Whereas Last Airbender was, from what I hear, a mostly shot by shot remake of the show.

Honestly, people would have cared way less about Avatar's whitewashing if the movie was any good at all. While I usually am all for being accurate to the source material, the truth is that some things don't translate perfectly from one medium to another, and I'd rather people make something good than make something totally faithful.
