Putin is Stalin? That other guy is Hitler. Looks vaguely political.

It's simple as that, it's simple as that, it's simple as that for your stupid ass.

Aren't they having elections or something?

I dunno.
I says to mount on metal tray or oven proof glass so I presume the slab of aluminum should be fine. The box says bake it at 130c at increments of 15 per 6mm of thickness.. So thats what i'll do. Still need to get a soft brush to smooth it out. Works really draining at the mo so I probably won't get to work on it till the weekend..

Thanks. Yeah a few people have said it looks good cloudy.. Went to Barnes today and turns out it needs to have like a shiny surface to turn out like glass. She said if I spray the object with a gloss acrylic it should turn out shiny. So I might try mend the mold and have it as a cloudy mold..

So I was reading a blog of a chick that does lots of sculptures and casting molds and shit and she reccomended using something called Monster Clay.

Using Monster Clay for the head sculpt since it will just be mold/cast up. MC is reusable and less expensive than sculpey in the long run. I save sculpey for one-off sculpts that will not be reproduced in resin. MC is also easier to work with in some ways since you can heat it to get it super soft ( wax based) so it’s great for larger projects.*Snip*
But yeah Monster Clay is good if you are going to make a mold and a cast copy of the piece. It’s more cost effective overall since you can melt the sculpted piece and reuse the wax clay after doing the mold/casts. It also doesn’t contain the sulfates some clays have that can interfere with silicon mold curing.

Thought you might be interested.

Funny you should mention it.. last night a guy told me about a similar wax based product. I tried wax on my first attempt a couple years ago.. You have a link to the blog?

Little late to ask this, but how did you do the mold and what did you use for the cast? Was it a latex or plaster mold, and what kind of latex is the cast made from?
The lazy/cheap side of my would like to try the same type of thing, only with a plaster of paris mold and latex caulk cast, but I know that's unlikely to turn out well.

OH! I know this chick.. not personally, but her work. I discovered her while searching for tentacle stickers..

There's a shop in the city which is dedicated to mold making/casting etc.. It's called Barnes. They have their own range of stuff.

The mold material is called Pinkysil. It's an equal part silicone rubber mix. 6min pot life. 60min cure time. Cost about $35 for a 500g kit. I have about a 5th left in each bottle after making the mold of squidy.
The cast is just called 'Epoxy Casting' and is a 2:1 mix epoxy resin. A 1.5kg kit cost me $38. So you could probably get that from most hardware stores I guess as it would be the same stuff they'd use for fibre-glassing. Has a pot life of about 30min.. and sets in 3 hours.

A latex cast would be cool as it would be all rubbery and stretchy..
I had a chat to the (hot)woman at the store and she explained my options.. I forget them all now as a lot of them required a lot fiddling around and unless your experienced is hard to perfect.. well that's all I remembered.. she had really nice tats and I was distracted
But what I ended up getting was the easiest to use (simple mix ratios) and churns out quality results.

I tried plaster a few years ago.. it was tricky to get the water to plaster mix perfect also the mold was fragile. Also you couldn't use it for objects that have a bit of undercut in them. It depends on what your making I guess.

I'll be making another mold after a lettering stamp set arrives.. bought it off ebay on monday for $20 from the states. I want to put my name and stuff on the bottom of my figures. Also I made some mistakes with the mold, as the resin shrinks.. its all on my blog if you want more info and pics.. but it has taught me a few things and has prompt me to do some more thorough research, like degassing the resin and techniques to reduce air bubbles.

Thanks dude.. Yeah i don't get the comments thing. I think the option to comment only pops up when I end my post with a question..

So glad it works how I imagined it would.
Now I just hope it gives the results of how I think it should..
