Happy Derpy Day, everybody! Do something nice for someone, eat a muffin, find Derpy, and watch your MLP:FiM The Friendship Express DVD!

You did get the DVD, right?

RIGHT?!

Because it has the original, unedited, completely 100% authentically Derpy version of "The Last Roundup"! And it's only ten bucks! What the heck are you waiting for?!

The whole Derpy fiasco infuriates me to such a degree that the only way I can continue to enjoy the show is if I force myself to forget that episode exists.

What exactly is so infurating to you?

A very small group of people (possibly just one person) sent Hasbro e-mails telling them that "derpy" means "mentally retarded", which isn't even true, but the mere suggestion of it was enough to frighten their PR department into re-editing the episode (at a no doubt considerable cost of both time and money) to remove Derpy's name, ungoogle her googly eyes, and change her voice.

It really says a lot about the lawyer-driven society we live in that even a massive corporate behemoth like Hasbro can be so easily bullied by threats from crusaders for so-called "social justice".

There's a certain irony in the fact that the tumblr fandom thinks "stupid people" is a persecuted minority.
I'm not really working on anything at the moment, but here's a link to my tumblr anyway.

Ah, I see. I'm glad they did change her voice (apparently the actress who did the original didn't know Derpy was a girl), but changing the eyes? Isn't that part of why she came to be known as Derpy and part of why we love her so?

Personally I liked the original voice. Thought it fit the character well. Anywho.

According some of the animators and other folks working on the show, that was the only instance where her eyes would be censored. She will continue making background appearances, and her eyes will continue to be derped up for future episodes.

Time for more music.

Lyra's Lullaby (YouTube version craps blocks, this version shows it rocks)

And one bit of not-music.

God help me, I did.
To forgo a rant, I prefer the "original" Derpy, and disagree strongly with how the edit was handled (or rather that it happened at all). I'd been waiting for some complete season DVD sets, so when Friendship Express was announced, I wasn't planning to get a 3 episode disc with a random selection. Then the itunes version of The Last Roundup was changed. Who knows if future broadcasts of it will be changed as well, but it wouldn't surprise me. And any dvd sets are also in question. In that case, for $12 I'll totally walk in to WalMart and buy a Ponies dvd.
