I think you meant Mark Williams (i.e. Arthur Weasley) as Rory's dad. Best season ever.

Also, I never thought I would be excited for a Dalek episode but OMG when the Doctor says, "I'd take a Dalek any day," and then it cuts to the little Dalek eye popping out of the snow OMG OMG

Also, in case none of you have seen her, here's the new companion, played by Jenna Louise Coleman, who will be joining the TARDIS on the Christmas special ...
Spoiler: show

Also, in regards to Amy and Rory leaving the show, it's rumored that their final episode will feature the return of ...

The Weeping Fucking Angels

Exciting!!!

I've been totally caught up on Doctor Who for a while, now. I'll be sad to see the Ponds leave, but I have high hopes for Jenna. Apparently she got the part because she was the only one that Matt Smith had trouble keeping up with.

Eh, I was under the impression that the Ponds/Williamses were done when Series 6 was over. Seemed like they had a good spot to leave with. However, I am intrigued by them leaving mid-Series and then having the new companion start up right after during the Christmas special. As far as I know, there won't be a mid-series split like last time (thank goodness! I blame last Series's lasklasterness on the split), so I imagine the departure of the Ponds and the arrival of whomever Jenny is playing will all coincide with the overall arc of Series 7.

I'm also really curious as to what Jenny's character will be. Moffat suggested in an interview that she won't be just another girl-meets-Doctor type story and will be a bit mysterious. Rumors abound already with the two most common ones being that she is Romana III or the love-child of Rose and Pseudo-Ten.

The love child of Rose and 10? That's a weird thought... I hope that's not it.

She should be the Doctor's clone daughter from that episode where that happened. I think the character was also named Jenny(?) so it works out perfectly.

I read somewhere that originally RTD was going to keep Jenny dead at the end of "The Doctor's Daughter," but Moffet, who was already tapped to take over the show, requested that she be kept alive. So it could very well be a return of that character.

Asylum of the Daleks talk begins now so don't read further unless you've seen the episode!

*ahem. So good start! Rousing bit of intrigue! Here are my thoughts for your consideration!

*Nice to see Skaro again.

*Amy and Rory's divorce is a bit of a jump from the end of "Pond Life," but then again, the end of "Pond Life" was also a bit of a jump. While I understand the reasoning behind their divorce, it would have been nice to see a bit of foreshadowing prior. They hardly talk about the one baby they did have, so why is suddenly not being able to have another such a big deal?

*Oh my god ... I need to buy the casting director of this show a beer, because seriously ... Jenna-Louise Cole may actually be hotter than Karen Gillian. Maybe I just have a soft-spot for brunettes wearing red dresses, but Jesus. It's like everyone cast in the Moffat-era is incredibly sexy. Smith, Gillian, Darvill, and now Coleman.

*And speaking of Coleman ... holy shit, did not see her appearing this early in the show. Granted, she may be Osmin now, and then later playing a different character (Clara) later, but still ... Moffat you clever git.

But this does bring in some interesting questions. If we are to assume that Coleman-the-companion will be the same character as we saw today, how is it that she will be introduced? Two possibilities 1. Timey-wimey stuff happens and the Doctor saves her from her Dalek hell. B) The Doctor encounters her prior to boarding the Alaska and crashing on the Asylum.

The former is certainly a possibility, but I'm hesitant about the latter if only because that will just lead to a River Song 2.0 plot, seeing as how we all fall in love with this character only to know of her tragic fate in the future.

Still though, while I expected there to be some fucked up twist at the end of the episode, I was not expecting the reveal of her being a fully transformed Dalek. That was emotionally scarring stuff there. I hurt for her at that point. Ugggh.

Your thoughts, ladies and gents?

I haven't actually started watching Dr. Who yet.
I haven't even turned on my tv in about 5 months.
Yet my every urge compels me to spend $100 on that tv remote...

I agree that the divorce came out of nowhere. It's not like I wouldn't believe that to be the reason behind their divorce, but the writing and timing felt a little forced.
Other than that, the episode was great! Jenna Louise Coleman was 100% adorable, but the whole Dalek thing was heartbreaking. I can't wait to see more of her.

I'm really unsure how they're going to bring her back. To me, it seems like the most likely thing is if Oswin is just a completely different character, like how Karen Gillan played a fortune teller in season four.
