We dig dig dig

It's Inktober time again! If you're not already doing so, you can tune in to my instagram or twitter to see what I draw each day. (So far, I've drawn a Hexidecimal and a Spider-Punk!)

We return on Friday with our next comic. See you then!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Flag Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Augh, I don't recognize that flag! Am I a bad superfan? What is it from? Give me my backlinks!" -Dave

No, no, you're not a bad fan! The only reason I didn't backlink it in Friday's newspost is because I knew Fuzzy was just going to explain what it was in today's strip.

I don't blame anyone for not recognizing it. I don't think the flag has never been commented on in-comic or presented as anything even remotely important. It's strictly a background element. But you will see it in every scene in the Committee boardroom, including the very first one from waaaaaaaaay back in 2011. (And yes, much as Hazel suggests in today's comic, it was designed to represent the Pit.)

"I love your use of white for the cave backgrounds in Rock Bottom! What thought went into the design of these backgrounds, and is there any particular reason you chose to use this instead of darker, more traditionally cave-y colors?" -Dawson

Thanks, Dawson! I wanted the caves in this part of the story to feel really open and empty, to really sell that feeling of "nothingness" and futility when Hazel and Fuzzy arrive at their destination. These caves are also supposed to be really hot, and without colour to play with, and hopefully the white kind of helped with that, along with all the grit, steam, and sweat.

There's also a third reason, but I can't say what it is yet. Ha!

"If I'm not reading the comics made for the Saucy Hippo pin-up art tier on Patreon, am I missing any important plot stuff? It feels weird knowing there are some Sam and Fuzzy comics I haven't read." -John

I would not worry it from that perspective, no!

For those who don't know, my Patreon "Saucy Hippo" pin-up art tier includes some actual short comics alongside all the normal pin-up illustrations. (I have drawn 8 or so pages of them so far.) They do feature S&F characters, and I guess they are technically "canon", but they're generally just light, frivilous stand-alone stories and jokes. I wouldn't put anything "important" in them, since they're targeted at an older audience than regular S&F. They're strictly for folks who would enjoy a version of what I do that also includes sexy/nsfw pin-up art and more risque jokes. If that's you, awesome, I bet you will dig them. But if it's not you, I don't think you need to worry about missing anything Important.

We return on Wednesday with our next comic. See you then!

Here's a comic for you, friends! But I'm running a little behind today, so I'm going to slightly postpone our Q and A feature. It will arrive on Monday, alongside our next comic. See you then!
