November Patreon Goodies

If you're a backer of my Patreon, a new month's worth of bonus stuff is available now! You can check out the bonus art I drew last month, and help suggest ideas for new ones! And for fans of my nsfw stuff, there's a ton of new comics and art on the Saucy Hippo tier, including some exclusive "Inktober" style pieces.

That's all for today. But come back on Wednesday for our next comic!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Magical Edition

"What on earth inspired you to draw Trevor dressed as Magical Trevor? I had completely forgotten about Weebl and Bob..." -Brett

I had too, actually! But it was a request from a Patreon backer. A real throwback to a different internet era! I mentioned this when I posted it on Twitter, but did you know: the first Weebl and Bob cartoon went online 10 days after the first Sam and Fuzzy comic?

"What's your method for understanding a characters personality?" -Alex

When I first create a character and think about what kind of person they are, I feel like I'm probably pulling a lot from observed human behaviour. My characters aren't based on specific real life people, but I definitely think aspects of their personalities are pulled from people and "types" I've met or worked with in my own life. And of course, a lot of them is also pulled from me, and how I think about things, or how I imagine I'd think about things if my life had gone differently.

But once I've actually worked with a charater for a bit... I don't entirely know how to explain it, but they just sort of figure themselves out. I start with something broader, and then they become more specific and nuanced the more I write them. One of my favourite things to do is take a relatively one note minor character and then try to imbue them with depth by imagining how they got that way. (Characters like Rikk or Rexford are good examples of this, I think.)

"What happened to the Cyborg Mafia? We saw Keller’s successor a couple times and she even has a few lines, but we know nothing about her?" -Lilly

I actually have no idea! I'm not sure if we'll be seeing the Cyborg Mafia anytime soon. The storylines I'm working on now are all very Newport-centric, and they don't opperate there.

That said, as the governing body of the Underground city of Sunken Valley, I suspect they may have been motivated to go "legit" in order to be politcally recognized, much like what Gert did with the Ninja Mafia.

Ok! That's all for today, friends. Come back on Monday for our next comic!

Mysterious ways

If you're in the mood for some extra fun distractions today, I'm continuing to post more "Inktober"-style pieces! (Yes, even though it's November now.) I just shared two big batches of 'em with my Patreon backers (including some pin-up/nsfw-y ones for Saucy Hippo backers), but I'm posting some daily on my twitter and instagram, too!

(And yes, once I'm done, I will be selling the originals like I have in previous years.)

We return on Friday with our next comic and a new round of Q and A! If you've got a question you'd like answered, just pop it in an email with "Q and A" in the subject line, or hit me up on twitter.
