Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Medium Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Would you ever want to tell stories through other mediums, such as animation, novels, or a rock opera?" -TyphonicTestament

I would enjoy working in animation! Of all the things you mentioned, that's the only one I've ever seriously considered. I would not be surprised if I wound up doing at least a little work in screenwriting or storyboarding in the future, especially now that the big S&F story has wrapped.

I like writing music, and did it a lot more when I was younger... but it's all stand alone pop songs and instrumental stuff. I'd love to make more music again, but I don't think I'd ever attempt to write a musical. Ditto for novels. (I am a terrible prose writer.)

It is hard to pull me away from comics, as it's the one place where I can both write and draw my own ideas! It's a pretty sweet gig if you can get away with it.

"Who is the kid in panel 4? Why haven't we seen him more? Can we know more about him?" -Wesley

Y'know, people are always telling me how surprised they are that I can remember so much complex S&F continuity. So I thought I'd take this moment to say I had absolutely no memory of this comic whatsoever. In fact, even after re-reading it, I still have no memory of making it.

So, to answer your question: beats the heck out of me!

"What kind of celebrations did you throw when you finished your massive ten year story arc? Must have been a wild party." -Lilly

None, really! Isn't that kind of sad? I told myself I'd do something after I was done kickstarting the final books. But of course, by then we were all knee-deep in covid restrictions.

I actually didn't really even take any vacation or time off work after it wrapped. The day after I drew the last comic, it was just on to the next regular work day. In restrospect, I kind of wish I had, because now it feels like maybe I could have used the rest! But back then, I didn't realize what a complicated year 2020 was going to be. In 2019 I was a cocky mofo, lol

"Have you ever thought about going back and colouring a story arc ala Bone?"  -Veronica

I haven't! I think the only reason my old comics would get colored is if they were being republished by a company that demanded it. (And that was willing to hire someone else to do it.) It would be so much work, and it is both more fun and more financially useful to make new stuff!

Personally, I don't have a strong desire to see the old stuff in color... I feel like S&F was designed with black and white presentation in mind, and if I knew it was going to be coloured, I would probably have drawn the lineart differently. But I suppose the same was true of Bone and Scott Pilgrim, and I like how those color editions turned out! In both of those cases, I think the colour editions worked out because they talented colourists came to the project with a fresh set of eyes and a clear vision of how (and why) those b&w comics could look great in colour. I think it would have to be the same in my case... a second artist who could bring something new to the existing work.

That's all for this week, team. But come back on Monday for our next comic!

-Sam Logan

I feel like S&F was designed with black and white presentation in mind, and I tend to draw my lineart differently when I know I'm going to color it. But really, I suppose the main reason I've never thought about for that is it would be a huge amount of work and I have no particular reason to do it.
