New Book/San Diego Mania

The new book is Now on Sale! And so is the new Overcompensating book from my longtime webcomic comrade Jeffrey Rowland. If I was you, I'd seriously consider picking them both up. (And maybe a copy of Skull Panda In Love, too, if you haven't got one already!)

San Diego Comic-con starts tonight! I'll be at the Topatoco book (#1231), where we'll have a wide assortment of Sam and Fuzzy swag, including:

- The new book!
- Skull Panda in Love
- The brand new Fig Pig (and friends) button set
- Fireflower, Blue Hedgehog and Neville shirts
- Insatiable Reader totebags
- And a whole bunch of cool prints and original art

If you're going to be at the con, be sure to swing by the booth and say hello! (And consider coming to our book release party... Thursday night, 9pm, at the Quality Social (789 6th Avenue)!

Pants

I guess he really meant it!

Also, holy smokes... friends! Sam and Fuzzy Fix Your Problem is on sale right now! And so is the new Overcompensating book from my longtime webcomic comrade Jeffrey Rowland. That's a whole day earlier than I promised! (We're impatient.) If I was you, I'd seriously consider picking them both up. (And maybe a copy of Skull Panda In Love, too, if you haven't got one already!)

Man, I am incredibly excited (and slightly terrified) to finally be launching our first proper, full-sized book. This is the big one, team. If it does well, we'll be able to make an entire series of books, one that definitively collects every single Sam and Fuzzy strip in beautiful dead-tree format. If that sounds good to you, then I ask only that you help us take the first step and pick up a copy of Fix Your Problem this week. Only you can make the dream come true. (And also prevent forest fires.)

Meanwhile, it's also San Diego week!

Whew! Busy busy busy with Comic-con preparations. But here, have a...

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Short Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Is Buddy related to Blinky from Stuff Sucks by Liz Greenfield?" -David

No! Although I certainly was a fan of Liz's excellent webcomic. (Which, as far as I can tell, is no longer available to read online.)

Buddy is actually inspired by a real life black moor goldfish... party of a entire tank of fish I kind of unwittingly inherited and wound up taking care of for a year or so. Let's just say these comics subtly convey my views on the value of the the goldfish as a personal companion. Thud!

"I was going to send an email simply asking 'Is Sam's original rendering a cross between sonic the hedgehog and mario?' Then I did a search of the Q&A sessions, and found that you've already admitted heavy Sonic influences... So, new question: could you elaborate a bit on your history of your drawing style with respect to video-game-inspired art?" -Abram

To be honest, game art probably was never a big influence on my work. I mean, there was no internet yet (*shakes cane*), and art books were still super uncommon, so the only place you could even see game-related artwork was on the boxes of whatever games you owned.

Sonic certainly influenced my art, but that was more from the Sonic comic books than the games themselves. Sonic, the Disney duck books and Bone... those were what I read religiously as a kid, and probably the earliest influences on my own comics.

That's a wrap for today! Next week... NEW BOOK!
