Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Art Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Is it too late to buy art for Christmas?" -Kate

I assume you mean commissioned art? At this point, if you get me to do an original piece, I can certainly have it done by Christmas, but it will likely not arrive in the mail until after the holidays. However, if you'd like a digital art piece -- or a high res scan of a physical art piece that you can print and substitute for the original until it arrives -- then sure, there is still time. Just Drop me a line.

"So I work at a guitar store and saw this book for ukuleles come in. The art style looks pretty familiar...I just wanted to check and see if it was yours because the artist isn't credited anywhere! The book was actually printed in Canada, too!
How often do you do work like this since your magazine gig ended? And also, do you play any instruments?" -Carl

Wow! I certainly did draw this... as a commission for the James Hill mentioned below the art. But it was so long ago, I don't remember much about it! To give you some idea of how far back I'm talking: I believe I was recommend to him by my high school band teacher. Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong! Unfortunately all my emails from that era were lost long ago in a hard drive crash. Maybe James is reading this now and can refresh my memory.

I love doing commission work, and I have definitely been doing more of it since becoming a full time cartoonist. Most of the drawings I do are personal commissions -- that is, art that Sam and Fuzzy readers are either getting for themselves or to give to others as gifts. But I do get some requests for art to use in other people's projects as well -- illustrations, mascot designs, logos, and other things of that sort. Here's one example of a character design I just finished for someone recently:

As for your last question, I play the piano! Not as much as I used to, but I have only ever briefly lived without one (a real one, not a keyboard) in my home. (I also used to play the trombone in highschool band, but I'm about 12 years out of practice now.)

"Okay, I'll bite. What are the other ten rules of recovery from chronic tragic gothic romanticism?" -Barry

So many people wrote in asking about this! You can see part of the third rule at the start of the next comic. But as for what the other nine are... well, you'll have to wait and see! (Translation: I have no idea.)

Comics are happening

Guys, guys, A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversible has returned from the dead, ready to delight once more! It was, and still is, one of my favourite webcomics, so I'm pretty thrilled to see Dave and Dale back in action.

And speaking of webcomics, have you seen this relatively new one, Rachel and Penny? It's a super fun and beautifully drawn story about a rock star and her manager. Go check it out!

And of course, if you still have a moment after all this other comic oggling, be sure to congratulate Skull Panda on his new career.
