Sam and Fuzzy

Fact (?): I am preeeeetty sure this is the first Sam and Fuzzy strip in which Sam and Fuzzy are both present, and no one else is, in at least a year. Possibly two? A long time, anyway.

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canadians! I hope you all get to spend your evening with at least one other person that you like.

More Sam and Fuzzy on Wednesday! See you then, team.

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Voice Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Since Jess Star's voice changes to match who she shapeshifts into, and she can only shapeshift into people she's seen before, how would she have known what Hazel sounded like the first time she disguised herself as Hazel? Unless she didn't, and her wrong-sounding voice is the reason Sam recognized that she wasn't really Hazel?" -Agni

I'm sure she recieved some general instruction from Sin, but yes, she probably didn't know exactly what Hazel sounded like!

Sin and Jess assumed her impression didn't have to be especially accurate, because they thought Sam had barely interacted with her before and wouldn't know the difference. But as we later found out, Sam had been secretly working with Hazel for some time. As a result, he was able to spot the fake pretty quickly... not only because she looked and sounded a little off, but also because she acted like they'd barely met. (You can see the exact moment where Sam realizes he's talking to a phony in panel 4.)

"Hey, reeeeally long time fan here! I'd never really have thought about it otherwise, but Dr McNinja is ending soon and just a few weeks after that was revealed, you killed Sin! Is Sam and Fuzzy ending soon? Say it isn't so! D:" -Jackson

The current chapter is the climax of Volume 5 of the "new series" of Sam and Fuzzy. After that, there is one (probably very large) last volume to go to finish up the big arc that started in Sam and Fuzzy Fix Your Problem.

Once Volume 6 is done, that will be a wrap for Sam and Fuzzy as we currently know it! But hey... it isn't the first time that's happened. Once the story is over, I'll start up a new one. I'm not planning on doing another arc centering directly on Sam and Fuzzy themselves, but I'd like to do some other comics set in the same universe, and some other stuff as well.

I am not sure what I'll do first yet, though! But I wouldn't panic. Comics will keep happening around here, and whatever I do next probably won't be any more jarringly different than any of the other times I completely changed what my comic work was about. (lolz)

"You obviously employ a lot of stylization in [Brain's] scenes and movements. How much of that is for emphasis and how much of that is real in that world? Does he actually look like a shadowy-vaguely-cat-like thing that seems to change shape, and affects the very air and light around him, or does he just look like a normal black cat?" -Jeremy

To the residents of the Sam and Fuzzy universe, Brain usually looks like a slightly abnormally proportioned, nearly-impossibly dark cat. However, sometimes he seems to move in ways that don't really make sense, or contort into shapes that he shouldn't be able to contort into. Basically, he's just supposed to look a little... unnatural.

For me, the main thing when illustrating Brain during his more surreal-looking moments is to make sure he doesn't look too much like Venom from Spider-man. I don't want it to feel like Brain is made out of goop or slime. I want it to look more like a solid creature that just kind of... comes apart... in a way that is very unsettling looking.

Next week: more comics! See you on Monday.

Sam and Fuzzy Extra

Thanks for all the kind words about the comic of late! I do my best.

Patreon peeps... this month's issue of Sam and Fuzzy Extra is now available to all present and future $5+ backers! It's full of bonus art of pets, robots, Sin sketches, and partying. Most of said bonuses are horizontally oriented, so this month's Extra is brought to you in exotic landscape format. Oooooh.

Also, a reminder that Patreon is advising folks to switch up their passwords because of a-hole trolls. All that stuff was thoroughly encrypted, but it never hurts to be careful.

We return on Friday with a new comic and a new round of Q and A! See you then, team.
