This is a surprisingly hard question! I think, even though I like drawing more than writing in general, I might like writing comics more than I like drawing comics. When I can just draw whatever I feel like, it's my favourite thing.  But the art in comics is always in service to the story, and sometimes I write stories full of things that are really tedious to draw. Haha!

"Will you be at this year's IRL Gen Con?" -JP

I won't, sadly. As much as I miss cons (and it's a lot, haha) we are still just not at the point where it's possible for me to do 'em -- especially shows outside of Canada. But I did design a pin for this year's Gen Con Pin Bazaar! We will be selling it in my online store during the event. Woo!

Haha yes we will! I have a longer story I want to do about that very subject. To be honest, I have just been waiting until I am in the right headspace for it. My brain has really wanted to work on shorter, goofier stuff of late, so that's what I've been doing!

I talked about this a little bit on my twitter recently, but I'll share it here, too. As you all probably know, since the big S&F story ended, I've taken more of an anthology approach to my comics here --- doing lots of different short stories and goofy stuff. But what people might not realize is that, for me, this ongoing approach has been driven as much by pandemic living as it was by ending my big story.

Sure... after spending 15 years on the same story, it was definitely appealing to work on shorter stories and try lots of different things. But also... it's just been a rough year, y'know? Covid has really thrown a monkey wrench into the works of my life and my job, especially as an artist who used to rely very heavily on conventions to make my living. I hate complaing  because I know there are people who have it worse, but woof. Woof! It has been a more or less constant struggle to adapt, and it has been exhausting. I can't even imagine trying to plan and launch a huge new project while all that is going on.

So instead, I've been keeping things a little smaller and more flexible! I've been making the kind of comics I've felt like making... things that cheer me up or grab my interest, that explore characters I want to flesh out, or that let me experiment with art things I've wanted to try. It's been a lot more "in the moment" that what I did for many years prior. But it's been a good fit for this weird ass time. And I hope it has brought y'all some comfort, too, like it has for me!
