International Holiday Shipping Deadline today, and new stuff on sale!

My fellow non-Americans! Today is the last day INTERNATIONAL customers can order S&F swag using the cheapest ("First Class") shipping option and still get it in time for Christmas. After that, you'll need to use a quicker option!

And speaking of swag, I've launched a bunch of brand new merch, and a special sale to boot! Here's what's new:

First of all, if you're looking to pick up the first two books in the Sam and Fuzzy saga -- or know someone else who is -- both the softcover and hardcover versions of the Omnibus I & II set are 50% off! It's a screaming deal. I'm literally screaming as I type this.

Meanwhile, two new shirts have launched: our all important guide to Corgi Shapes, and a little passive aggressive propaganda from the Ninja Mafia. There are also 11x17 poster print options for each, if you'd rather hang 'em on your wall than on your body.

And last but not least, 3-packs of Vote Dog Bumper Stickers are now up for grabs. (You can also get a bumper sticker as part of the add-on bonus pack that comes with Volume 5, if that's your preference. I'm not the boss of you!)

I hope you dig these new goodies. Enjoy! And come back on Friday for our next comic.

Surprise

Gertrude and Sam's relationship has been a little fraught since Sam took over the Ninja Mafia. The last time they worked together was in Off the Sauce -- the big "burlesque heist" storyline, and a personal favourite of mine!

Come back on Wednesday for our next comic. See you then!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Toque Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"What is up with Devahi's head?  It has always looked to me like she's wearing a hat, out of which pop her bangs.  Is this the correct interpretation?  Is something else going on?  Does she have a completely different hair style for her bangs and the rest of her hair?  Does she ever take her hat off?  Is there a correct interpretation?  What in the Underground is going on here?" -Benjamin

Devahi has very short black hair, with two tufts of long poofy dyed bangs in the front. It is absolutely an impossible nonsense anime haircut, so I don't blame anyone who favours the hat/toque interpretation. That said, if it was a hat, that would make some particular comics -- and a lot of the pin-ups -- kind of strange! (Who wears a hat in bed, or the shower, or underneath their ninja mask?)

"Given your regular (and impressively maintained) upload schedule, I was wondering what your weekly work flow is like?" -CJ

For the comic itself, I tend to alternate... one day pencilling and inking a strip, and one day doing the "computer stuff" (scanning, cleaning up, adding the panel borders and fills, shading, and lettering). In theory, that's a six day process for three comics a week, with one day "off", but I often include the seventh day as well so that I slowly build up a buffer. (Which then gets eaten up every time I go away to a con or on a trip!)

Spreading out the process like that leaves time each day for other things... neither the pencilling/inking nor the computering of a single strip is a full-day task. So with the rest of those hours, I do everything else I have to do: designing merch, doing commissions and freelance work, creating bonus art and pin-ups for Patreon, prepping for conventions, going to conventions, and and handling lots of extremely boring non-art type stuff that comes with running your own business! The comic is a reliable backbone to my schedule, but the "everything else" can vary wildly from week to week, both in nature and in quantity. Whew!

But don't get me wrong. Although I probably work more than the "normal" 40 hours a week, I do not actually work a full day every day or anything! I just tend to spread my work out over the whole month, into whatever hours are convenient for whatever else I want to do, rather than work a regimented 9 to 5.  I don't really even have a consistent time of the day I draw the comic... sometimes I do it in the morning, and other times I do it right before going to bed. Some people would hate this, but I enjoy having the flexibility to schedule around my personal life and hobbies. You just have to make sure that's what you're actually doing... it can be easy to just fill all day every day with work and not make time for anything else!

"Any estimate on how much longer the current story arc will last (and by extension, how much longer Sam & Fuzzy has until its magnificent yet heartbreaking conclusion)? I'm just curious when I should start setting up my 'The End Is Nigh!' signs and begin forecasting the apocalypse." -Dawson

I think the big story that began with "Fix Your Problem" will be done by this time next year. That said, I've never been great at estimating how many comics the story in my head actually breaks down into, so don't hold me to that!

And don't worry about your "End Is Nigh!" sign, either! Although this story will come to its thundering conclusion, I will have plenty more comics for you all after that. They'll be a little different, but honestly, probably no moreso than this era of the comic was from the previous ones. Anyone who doesn't like seeing me try different things probably abandonned this website long ago... if you're still here, you should be good!

We return on Monday with our next comic. See you then!
