Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Wow Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Wait a minute... This might still be spoilers but... Based on Candice being a relatively strong ghost left over from her contact with the tar, does this mean both Brain and Hart were originally from a group of humans who gave up their bodies? Or at least copies of humans who gave strong enough impressions to give it from for all these years?" -Justin

Not exactly! Demons like Brain and Hart are tar that has developed a "personality" of it's own by being exposed to weak, disjointed fragments of ambient thought over long periods of time. But you want to think of it more like random bits and pieces of surrounding psychic noise, rather than a strong copy of a single person.

Hart formed from tar in a research lab, and his personality was informed by bits and pieces of the ambitious, reckless scientists that were experimenting on him... as well as from the experience of being an experiment. And based on some comments Hart has made, Brain apparently formed from tar locked in a rusted old tank in Rex's basement, with a personality informed primarily by Rexford himself (and probably various other Committee members and visitors).

"What does the planning process of creating a new character look like? Do you go through lots of sketches? I am especially curious about what went into creating Rexford's design as he looks somewhat different in his first appearances. Were you unhappy with the way he looked?" -Claire and Alice

Some characters take a LOT of sketches to figure out, and some come together really fast. But either way, they almost always continue to morph and shifting a bit over the course of their initial appearances. There are some things you just only figure out by drawing them over and over and over again!

Rexford in particular changed a lot because, well... he is kind of hard to draw! There is a lot about the structure of his head that I only really "figured out" and nailed down after being forced to draw it dozens of times from lots of different angles, and with lots of different facial expressions. It wasn't really a conscious process, but you can see it happen gradually over his various appearances.

"Wow. Wow?
Wow." -Nathan

That's all for this week. Come back on Monday for our next comic!
