A new week brings new comics! Here's the first one. The next will arrive on Wednesday! (Asuming I have not melted by then.)

In other news, I thought I'd take a moment today to plug preorder store for the final Sam & Fuzzy books!  If you missed our Kickstarter, you can still back the project and nab some goodies, including the last two volumes, a complete series set, pins, and our mega discounted complete ebook bundle!

Ok friends, that's all for now. 'til next time!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Double Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Did you forget to post the Q and A last Friday? (Or anything else? There's no newspost for Aug 7th!)" -Doug

Good grief! Sorry about that. I DID post a Q and A, but I apparently accidentally tagged it with the wrong date (August 8th), so it didn't display! That's extremely annoying. It's fixed now, but I'll re-post those questions in today's post after our latest questions, just to make sure no one missed 'em!

"Nice to see Roan again! When we last saw him, he was wanted by the Erasers. Is he still a fugitive? Are the human authorities after him at all?" -Roger

Roan is no longer a fugitive! He is not currently wanted for any (known) crimes by surface authorities. And because the Erasers have been disbanded, he doesn't have to worry about them anymore. (However, he is absolutely still a criminal, haha!)

"What's your favorite music to draw too?" -Alexander

Interesting question! I often listen to music when I draw, but for the most part, I just listen to whatever music I'm in the mood for. I don't really have a particular "drawing mix"... although I certainly know artists who do. I'll make a point of picking something extra energetic if I'm really having trouble getting to work, or something extra chill if it's later at night. But most of the time, my inner-multitasker will just throw on whatever music I've been "meaning to listen to" anyway. (Drawing sessions are a great way to force myself to make time to actually listen to music, haha!)

That said, when I'm writing, I either need silence or instrumental music. Lyrics confuse my writing brain! Fortunately, I like a lot of instrumental music -- I listen to a lot of classic and modern jazz and funk, as well as a lot of game and anime soundtracks and instrumental bands.

I feel like I can't end this answer without actually mentioning some music I listen to, so here's what I've been listening to most regularly for the last year or so according to Spotify (in no particular order): Sloan, Cory Wong, Lawrence, Herbie Hancock, Gorillaz, Cory Wong, Vulfpeck, TWRP, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orhestra, clipping, Sonic OSTs, Cowboy Bebop OSTs, Billy Hatcher OST, Toejame and Earl OST, Ben Folds, Hideki Naganuma, Janelle Monáe, Carly Rae Jepsen, the One-Ups, and Miles Davis. Party!

BONUS ZONE: Last week's questions!

As mentioned above, these questions accidentally didn't display last friday, so I've re-included them here for those who missed 'em!

"Back in the day, Jess used to wear glasses but now she doesn't (well, most of the time most of the time). Why did she get rid of them? Was she going for a sexy urban chic thing with fake glasses, or does she buy contacts, or does she use her shape shifting abilities to manipulate the curvature/thickness of her cornea to fix her eyes? Or does she just constantly bump into walls off panel?" -Tom

Jess' glasses were strictly a fashion statement. (She definitely doesn't need them to improve her vision.) To be honest, the main reason she rarely wears them anymore is that they are kind of annoying to draw! Because her eyes are already often partly obscured by her hair, throwing the glasses into the mix just adds one more overlapping layer of visual noise. So, narrative reason: changing fashion. Cartoonist reason: laziness.

"Will we ever see Trevor again?" -Max

Nah.

"How has your experience of the virtual conventions gone so far? I can see that everyone is trying to supply the best experience they can during the pandemic, but how is that working out for you in particular? You have a particularly excellent selection of things we can buy - are we still buying even though we can't be there?" -Alice

Alice, this is an interesting question, so I will be brutally honest! In my experience, these virtual conventions have, at best, only generated a tiny handful of extra online sales. Alas! I think the problem is, the vast majority of convention business is selling to casual fans and idle browsers. I think it's very difficult for conventions to recreate that kind of shopping experience online. So generally speaking, that's a part of my income that has just disappeared.

Fortunately, the con customers who are also actual S&F readers are much more reliable! And I have definitely seen some of them switch to supporting me online because they know they won't be able to see me in person this year. But generally speaking, these are the folks who don't need a virtual con to remember I exist... so I've seen that increase in online support spread out pretty evenly throughout the year. It has been nice to have that extra support coming in for my online store, my Patreon, and of course the Kickstarter!

I don't know if anyone will ever be able to truly recreate the sales magic of a convention online. But I'm very fortunate that I also have such an established, supportive online fanbase. With the loss of cons, they have been saving my butt even more than usual this year!

That's all for now, team. But come back on Monday for our next comic!

-Sam

"Nice to see Roan again! When we last saw him, he was wanted by the Erasers. Is he still a fugitive? Are the human authorities after him at all?" -Roger

Roan is a free man! He is not currently wanted for any crimes by the surface authorities, and the Erasers have been disbanded.

Roan Zone

It's Roan! When last we saw Roan (at least chronologically speaking), he was busy getting the crap kicked out of him by Hazel. (Not that you need to know about any of Roan's previous appearances to understand this particular story.)

We return on Friday with our next comic, and a fresh round of Q and A! As always, if you've got a question you'd like answered, just pop it in an email with "Q and A" in the subject line, or hit me up on twitter.
