Sam, as you may recall, has been a little stressed out about his many, many impending dooms lately. I guess you might say... he's out?

Did you know: Sam and Fuzzy was nominated for a Shuster this year? The Shusters are Canada's national comic awards -- named, as you may have guessed, after Superman's Canadian co-creator Joe Shuster. It's pretty cool to be nominated alongside so many other talented canucks!

We return on Wednesday, with a new comic in tow. See you then!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A:  Hippo Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

Today's comic is a pinch on the short side by my standards -- I try and chop up the larger narrative into the chunks that stand alone the best, and that's just how the pages subdivided best for this particular scene! So as a wee extra, here's a fun futuristic bonus piece that I drew for Patreon this month based on backer suggestions. It is, of course, 100% canon.

"Um... X and Y aren't REALLY dead, are they? ARE THEY?" -Cam

They sure are.

Dead tired!

Tired of being corpses!

In seriousness, I'm afraid you'll have to wait to find out what is or isn't left of them. Such is the pain of serialized storytelling!

"What did Sam mean when he said 'I think I have a pretty good idea...' It sounds like we are supposed to recognise what's going on." -Froggyrules

Not really! It just means that Sam is doing what a lot of our readers enjoy doing... wildly speculating. We'll find out what his guess is a little later. (It is not necessarily going to be an accurate one.)

"Why is Gert's club called the Saucy Hippo? Was there ever an actual saucy hippo involved, and if so, was it the owner or a performer?" -Max

It has honestly been so long since the original (and considerably seedier) Saucy Hippo first appeared that I don't really remember. It might be fun to retcon a reason for it now, but at the time, I probably didn't put much thought into it beyond wanting Underground businesses to have particularly weird sounding names.

What a lasting legacy was left by that impulse decision, though! Not only is Saucy Hippo now the name of Gert's (considerably more prominent and narratively important) burlesque business empire, it's also what I named my pin-up art focused Patreon tier. I called it that because at least some of the cartoons I draw for it actually take place there, but I do sometimes wonder how strange that name seem to any non-readers who stumble across my Patreon page. Like, do any of them think there will be actual hippos? (There are no actual hippos.)

We return on Monday with our next comic. See you then!

Wow! I nearly went to bed without remembering to upload today's comic. Boy, that would have been an unceremonious end to over a decade of timely updates. Thank you, twitter friends, for reminding me!

Here's today's comic! HERE IT IS! Another one arrives on Friday, as does a new round of reader Q and A! (As always, if you've got a question you'd like me to answer, send it my way in a tweet, or in an email with "Q and A" in the subject line.) See you then!
