Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Dinosaur Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"This is probably going to be elaborated on in canon soon, but what is the currently known status of dinosaurs in the Sam and Fuzzy universe? Are all fossils fabrications made because Rexford didn't want to be alone or were they just discovered after our current spot in the flashback?" -Signe

The dino status quo is pretty much the same as it is in our own universe... they really did roam the earth a long time ago, but went extinct, and all that's left today is fossils.

Rexford is a mysterious exception, and the only living dino on Earth. Although we don't know exactly where he came from, in our previous chapter Hazel shared a theory pulled from his mind: Rex thinks he was somehow reanimated from fossils using the power of the Pit. (We also know that his missing tooth was an actual fossil that was old enough to have been found and decorated by some old human society.)

"I love the transitional device you've been using for this flashback sequence, using adjoining panels to jump between moments in time while keeping central characters in the same position between them (panel 9 here to panel 1 here, for instance). Why did you chose to go with this format instead of some of the ones you have used for flashbacks in the past?" -Dawson

Thanks, Dawson! This is one of those things that I think will be more noticible in book form, but I'm glad people are registering it when reading online, too.

As for why I did it... I thought it helped convey the feeling of Rexford being an unchanging, unaging constant while the rest of the world whips by around him. A lot of time is passing over the course of this flashback, but I wanted it to feel like a singular stream and be interupted with a ton of "___ Years Later" type captions!

"It seems like your more recent pin-up stuff is a little more 'adult' than the old Headcanon books. Is that true? If so, why the change? Personal taste? Collapse of society's moral fabric? Boredom?" -Max

Haha! I don't think it's a super recent change... more like a long, slow shift? I've been doing pin-up work for half a decade, and to be honest, as I've done so both my range of interest and personal comfort zone has just gradually broadened. For the "Saucy Hippo" Patreon tier, I still post plenty of cute costumes and silly jokes and "PG-13" type stuff like you'd find in my older Headcannon books... there's just also some saucier stuff and actual nekkid people in the mix these days as well. I guess it's not very shocking by internet standards, or particularly unusual for the pin-up genre, but some of it is newer territory for me, sure. I think it's all pretty fun, and it's let me do some things I haven't been able to do before (like actually draw one of Gert's Saucy Hippo acts, or explore whole new genres of stupid jokes).

But the one thing that has been a little tricky is figuring out how to advertise here on this website, which I generally try to keep "PG". (You know, except for all the violent beheadings.) I've started posting occassional preview ad graphics, but I try to keep them pretty subdued so they don't annoy the disinterested. I think I'm doing OK, but if not I'm sure someone will tell me. (To be honest, I get the impression nobody on the face of the earth actually cares about this except for me.)

That's a wrap for this week, team. See you on Monday with our next comic!

Rex in peace

Today's comic features a brief appearance from one of the Ninja Mafia's many former emperors. There's definitely a proud tradition of incompetence among the holders of that particular office.

We return on Friday with our next comic, and a new round of Q and A! As always, if you've got a question for me, pop it in an email with "Q and A" in the subject line. See you then, team!
